About
NORCO is an indie point & click narrative adventure published by Raw Fury and developed by Geography of Robots. The game was released on March 23, 2022, and offers a single-player experience set in a distorted version of South Louisiana. Players explore sinking suburbs and verdant industrial swamps within this quirky sci-fi world. The title belongs to the mystery, adventure, and puzzle genres. The short description notes that Act One is available for purchase. Your journey begins after your mother passes away, leaving you to search for your missing brother Blake. You must follow a fugitive security android through refineries, strip malls, and drainage ditches in suburban New Orleans. The setting features disappearing swamplands and labyrinthine oil refineries inspired by the real town of Norco. The visual style uses painterly and cinematic pixel art to depict the quotidian sci-fi environment. Audio elements include field recordings by fmAura and a driving post-industrial electronic score from Gewgawly I. The narrative starts as a search for your brother but quickly evolves into a multigenerational mystery. Themes of salvation, memory, technology, and nature blend together in a contemplative story rooted in Southern literature. You will encounter various characters such as a chaotic bayou pirate, a bar-stool private detective, an escaped security android, and a stuffed childhood monkey. These figures provide assistance in an eroding and uncertain world where the past haunts the present. Gameplay involves solving puzzles and fighting past corporate security goons to infiltrate an influencer cult squatting an abandoned mall. The main story takes approximately six hours to complete, while including extras extends playtime to seven hours. A completionist run requires about eight hours to finish all content.

NORCO Critic Reviews and Review Scores

Norco is a beautiful, surprising, human, and utterly magnetic debut.

I’ve never played a game like Norco, which elegantly celebrates and admonishes its cultural roots while simultaneously chronicling a strange doomsday scenario. Kay and Catherine’s shattered America is not so dissimilar from our own – burgeoning industrial complexes threaten to displace low-income families, automated systems supersede human workers, and the filthy rich work around the clock to deter upward mobility. The game isn’t always gloomy. One cool night, I sat atop City Hall and gazed at the constellations with a stranger. Hours earlier, I flipped through treasured memories on a faulty flatscreen TV. Norco is an unforgettable reminder that there’s an inherent beauty behind the madness.
