About
The Long Journey Home is an indie RPG and strategy simulation developed by Daedalic Studio West and published by Daedalic Entertainment. This sci-fi title was released on May 30, 2017, and features a single-player experience set across galaxies, planets, and anomalies. The game functions as a rogue-like RPG where players explore an open world filled with quests and various mechanics. The narrative begins with what was intended to be a short test flight from Earth to Alpha Centauri and back. However, when the first experimental jump drive malfunctions, the player and their crew become trapped on the wrong side of the galaxy. With no immediate way back, the journey shifts entirely into the vast unknown of outer space. Throughout this strange journey, players will encounter unforeseen obstacles while also discovering unimaginable treasures. Failure is part of the experience, requiring the crew to pick themselves up again after setbacks. The universe changes its design with every new journey, offering different encounters and outcomes. The primary goal involves bringing the crew back home to their families and friends. Players can expect a main story length of approximately 20 hours for the core narrative. If you choose to explore all content including extras, the total playtime extends to around 56 hours.

The Long Journey Home Critic Reviews and Review Scores

When The Long Journey Home focuses on interactions with a diverse and entertaining cast of aliens across its procedurally generated star systems, it's possible to find a degree of wonder and personality that many roguelike seldom achieve. Unfortunately, such interactions take a back seat to a barrage of frustrating minigames with rewards that rarely match the risks. The experience as a whole suffers for it.

A savage, sometimes frustrating space exploration game that succeeds because of beautiful design and a compelling universe.
