About
Trek to Yomi, developed by Leonard Menchiari and Flying Wild Hog and published by Devolver Digital, is an action adventure title released on May 4, 2022. The game features a single-player experience where the young swordsman Hiroki vows to protect his town after his Master dies. Bound by duty despite tragedy, he must journey beyond life and death to confront himself and choose his next path. The presentation utilizes cinematic camera angles and striking visuals inspired by classic samurai films to create a true movie-like experience. Players engage in streamlined combat using traditional samurai weapons against vicious swordsmen and supernatural beings. The narrative follows Hiroki's fall against evil forces and his heroic return to fulfill a failed promise to save the people he swore to protect. The main story takes approximately five hours to complete, while including extras extends the playtime to six hours. A completionist run requires about twelve hours to finish all content available in the game. The soundtrack accompanies the journey as Hiroki decides his path forward through these mythic storytelling elements.

Trek to Yomi absolutely nails the samurai aesthetic in a satisfying but modest adventure.

A gorgeous game with frustrating combat and glitchy exploration, Trek to Yomi is the definition of style over substance.
Game InformerJill Grodt

Trek to Yomi looks and feels noticeably outdated for such an aesthetically pleasing game. And its archaic gameplay can’t be completely covered up by its artistic black-and-white filter. Trek to Yomi tried to reach the heights of lauded Japanese filmmaking, but unfortunately, it falls almost as flat as its 2D combat plane.
GameSpotRichard Wakeling
5
Trek to Yomi oozes style by evoking the legendary samurai flicks of Akira Kurosawa, but its stilted combat lacks the substance to make this a classic in itself.
