When an MMORPG has been running for 28 years with the same four classes that debuted at launch, you really wouldn't expect a new class to be coming. I mean, if Tibia really wanted to add another "vocation," they would have done so by now, right?
One would think so and, in this case, one would be wrong. Later this month, Tibia players will get a chance to start testing out the new Monk vocation, Tibia's version of classes. Adding to the existing roster of Paladin, Knight, Druid, and Sorcerer could be a risky move. That risk isn't lost on CipSoft. In a press release, Product Manager Niadus acknowledges that this could be "Too complex and too risky," but then says, "The more we talked about it, however, the more it felt actually possible as well as a natural step for the game.”
The monk will be primarily a melee fighter, however monks will have a little bit of support and healing capabilities. The choice of melee was easy once the team decided to actually add a class. There's already quite a bit of ranged fighting in the MMO. The choice to go with a bit of healing came down to the populations of Paladins and Druids skewing towards the tanking Paladin...so let's add some more healing.
The team breaks down their entire thought process behind the Monk's creation so you can get in their heads a bit.
Initial tests for the Monk will kick off in late February and the class is expected to launch in the second quarter.
