Another batch of gaming industry layoffs was announced today. This one isn’t quite as massive as the others, but that’s also because those being laid off are at Eidos Montreal – a subsidiary of Embracer Group AB. The creators of Marvel’s Avengers announced via Twitter today that as part of Embracer’s ongoing restructuring, it has let 97 people from development teams, administration, and support services go.

According to a report from Bloomberg, the layoffs are accompanied by the cancellation of a Deus Ex game following two years of development. The game hadn’t officially been announced and had not begun production yet as that was scheduled for later this year. Instead, reports are that what’s left of the Eidos team will be shifting their focus to “an original franchise”.
