If you skipped yesterday’s Summer Game Fest stream, you may have missed that NC dropped a launch window for Aion 2. It’s not a specific date, but we now know the MMORPG will be launching on PC in September via Steam and Purple. When the global version launches, it will be available in North and South America, Europe, and Asia, and support 10 languages.
Ideally, this should be a game that fans of the original Aion are looking forward to. After all, there was a lot of complaining about the lack of real flight. The original’s glide system wasn’t bad, but it’s understandable that everyone would expect to actually fly when they have wings. So, the fact that Aion 2 is built around flight as a combat system is pretty exciting.
That said, I’m not sure that will be enough to outweigh the monetization system revealed last year. It will allow players to play for free, but features tiered subs to access the bulk of the game. Subs aren’t a bad thing. The one MMORPG I play is sub-based and requires expansion purchases. That being said, I’m less inclined to sub to the sequel of a game that’s gone free to play. I suppose playing the limited free access might change my mind if the game is good enough.
Although I’m not sure I’m going to get over the changes to the Asmodians.
Ahead of the game’s launch, players are encouraged to sign up for the game’s newsletter. Similar to pre-registering, this will earn players some special goodies at launch. Specifically, they’ll receive the companion pet Pagati and their choice of an additional pet. The pets to choose from are Konutin Worker, Papis, Black Smoke Murute, and Silver Blade Rotan.
