I'm not going to lie here. Because I am not a huge military person nor am I a combat aircraft person, I initially read the press release dropped by the War Thunder team and went, "wait, they're adding dragons?" For the next few minutes, my brain stopped reading the press release and started imagining how the strategy game would look if you could hop into a modern day military aircraft OR take to the sky with a dragon and combat ensued.
Kind of sounds awesome to me!
No, War Thunder isn't adding literal dragons, maybe sadly. Instead they're adding the Chinese-made "dragons", the J-10 and JF-17 fighters in September. The update is fittingly called the "Dance of Dragons." The JF-17 was developed by China for use in the Pakistani Air Force, and we'll see the addition of the also Chinese-made and Pakistani-used Al-Khalid-I tank. The J-10 is still used in China to this day, is capable of speeds near Mach 2 at high altitude, and sports a uniquely large tail to increase high speed maneuverability.
If you want to hit the seas instead, the French Coastal Fleet will be heading to beta testing soon, seeing the VTB-8, VTB-9, and VTB-11 hit the water and the somewhat interesting Vedette-type 40K (which changed flags three times) will also set sail.
There isn't any additional information on the War Thunder site yet, but there will be a post soon. In the meantime, here's the trailer for the dragons.
