In July of last year, Mithril Interactive pushed their F2P PvPvE dungeon-delving game Dungeonborne into early access. At the time, the team expected to see early access last 3-6 months, but things could have been extended based on player feedback. The team even dropped a roadmap that included four major things coming to the game in the first few months.
Now, 8 months later, Dungeonborne has announced that it is closing down. Starting tomorrow, you won't be able to register any new accounts or make any cash shop purchases in the game. Servers will remain on until May 28th, so if you're already in there and you'd like to play a bit more, get that time in now.
While the announcement makes everything official, players have been reporting that they felt the game was already being abandoned by the developers months ago. Steam reviews from September through January keep expressing similar sentiments: Dungeonborne could have been good, it started with a lot of player interested, but the devs seemed to have turned their back on the project.
Whether that's true or not, once that becomes the prevailing sentiment of players, it's hard to undo that notion. With the last real announcements coming from the game's X (formerly Twitter) account being the release of the September pre-season, it's easy to see why players may feel the way they do.
