MMOBOMB
Jun 06, 2025
The Nintendo Switch 2 is officially out, as of today. But the only game that launched with it is the $80 Mario Kart World. (We don’t talk about the $10 Welcome Tour, which is essentially a pay-to-play tech demo.) So here’s some free-to-play MMOs you can try out on your fancy new device.
Palia is a cozy, laid-back MMO from Singularity 6 that mixes life sim vibes with open-world exploration. Instead of slaying monsters, you're farming, fishing, decorating your house, and making friends with NPCs and other players. It’s perfect if you’re looking for a relaxing game; think Animal Crossing but with actual people instead.
If you’ve ever wanted to team up with Batman or throw down against Superman, DC Universe Online has you covered. This superhero MMO from Daybreak Games lets you create your own hero or villain and jump into the action across Gotham, Metropolis, and more. DC fans who enjoy fast-paced combat can’t go wrong here.
Wizard101 is a turn-based MMO from KingsIsle where you play as a young wizard-in-training. Players explore colorful, themed worlds and use a deck of magical spells to battle enemies. It’s got a mix of strategy, story, and customization. The game is pure lighthearted fun.
Skyforge, made by Allods Team, is an action-packed MMO where you play as an immortal who can swap classes on the fly. The game mixes PvE and PvP with flashy, combo-heavy combat and a cool progression system that’s all about building prestige. I’m actually surprised this one’s on the Switch.
Trove looks like Minecraft but plays like a complete RPG. Built by Trion Worlds (now under Gamigo), this voxel-based MMO lets you dungeon crawl, build stuff, and level up a bunch of unique classes. It’s silly, fun, and all about creativity. The game is perfect for players who love this kind of aesthetic and enjoy exploration.
Sky: Children of the Light from thatgamecompany is a beautiful adventure MMO that’s for that small portion of fans of the genre who dislike combat. You glide through dreamy worlds, help lost spirits, and team up with other players in heartwarming ways. If you’re looking for something artistic and meaningful, check this one out.
