MMOBOMB
Jun 18, 2025
MMORPGs are notorious for giving you arthritis. Between rotation-heavy combat systems, situational abilities, buffs, debuffs, cooldowns, combo chains, procs—you name it—your keyboard turns into a piano. And while that’s fun for some people, it’s not for me. I play games in this genre for the chill grind, where I only need to press one, two, maybe three or four buttons to stay efficient.
That’s why I love MapleStory — specifically, the Old School version. In this 2D side-scrolling MMORPG, you’re basically just jumping and attacking the whole time. That’s two buttons. Occasionally, you’ll tap a third or fourth to buff your character, and some classes might throw in a movement skill. But that’s pretty much it.
Other great examples include RuneScape, which is played almost entirely with a mouse, or Wakfu and Dofus, both of which are turn-based. I also want to shout out action-combat titles — even though they seem like they'd be more intense, they often have simpler rotations than your typical tab-target MMORPG.
Anyway, I love this genre — but I’m not here to stress out. I’m here to vibe. That means I gravitate toward MMORPGs that let me enjoy the journey without managing five hotbars. Give me a game where I can press a few buttons, watch my character do cool stuff, and get lost in another world.
