Riot Games talked about upcoming features and improvements coming to League of Legends that are designed to enhance the game experience for both new and veteran players. Season 3 will highlight stories and champions from Noxus and Spirit Blossom, including LeBlanc, Yunara, Atakhan, and Xin Zhao. The update also celebrates a return to the classic Summoner’s Rift map.
A significant focus is on Xin Zhao’s visual overhaul. While his gameplay remains the same, his base and vaulted skins have received updated animations and appearances. Some vaulted skins will return temporarily at discounted prices, and an all-new Epic skin is slated for release later in the season. Additionally, new Prestige skins are coming for Sylas, Mel, J4, Zoe, and Viktor, with the Machine Herald Viktor skin available for free to players who reached Mastery 5 by August 4.
Another major new feature is the introduction of a WASD control scheme. This alternative control option aims to lower the barrier to entry for new and returning players who prefer keyboard movement over the traditional point-and-click controls. Initially launching on the Public Beta Environment, the WASD mode will roll out gradually to unranked and eventually ranked queues after thorough testing. It includes expanded keybinding options and a dynamic locked camera, initially exclusive to this mode.
The team behind the free-to-play MOBA is also stepping up its efforts against smurfing and account boosting. Starting with patch 25.18, accounts involved in boosting or “hitchhiking” will face penalties, though legitimate alternate accounts used solely by their owner will not be affected. This comes alongside ongoing improvements to matchmaking accuracy with the True Skill 2 system.
Last but not least, the Doombots PvE mode returns with tougher AI, new bosses, and additional challenges.
