Marvel Rivals continues to have a growing roster of playable characters, with heroes or villains added in every seasonal and mid-season update. This means that there is quite a variety of different characters available on the three Vanguard, Duelist, and Strategist roles, with multiple characters falling into particular team comps or playstyles – such as poke, dive, and brawl.
However, if you are new to Marvel Rivals or learning characters that you have not yet played before, then understanding which heroes counter one another is a crucial part of the process. Knowing these advantages and disadvantages will enable you to read the team composition and make clutch character swaps, as well as even learn how to play into particular counters in order to grow even stronger on the hero of your choice. While some picks have more hard counters than others, a complete summary of the best picks to help take down every hero in the game has been included in the guide below.
How to Counter Deadpool in Marvel Rivals

Deadpool is the only character on the Rivals roster who operates under all three roles. This makes him one of the most well-rounded characters and one of the trickiest to ‘hard counter’, so to speak. Regardless, there are still a few matchups that you can run to apply pressure and make his job tricky.
- Characters who have high DPS from range can out-play him with good positioning, making it hard for him to break into the fight. Hela, Hawkeye, and Punisher are decent examples.
- Winter Soldier gains shields with each ability used, meaning he has strong survivability for brawls against Deadpool. A good Bucky can use this to their advantage to take him out.
- Thing, Peni, and Groot can play very 'in his face', and Thing even takes away his crucial movement abilities. Peni's nest can create extra hazards for Deadpool to deal with, especially DPSPool or StrategistPool. Groot can block him off with walls and capitalise on moments of bad positioning.
- Loki’s lamps can make it hard for Deadpool to take out targets, and his invisibility + clone teleport come in handy for survival in such matchups. Alternatively, Luna Snow is a good all-rounder whose freeze can soft-counter nearly anyone on the roster if hit consistently.
How to Counter Angela in Marvel Rivals

- The best chance of countering Angela is through CC or disruption of her pin, which is used to displace enemies and even dump them off the map.
- Gambit can cleanse anyone who is being pinned away by her, freeing them from the CC of her pin. Invisible Woman can displace her with her push/pull, or even shield her pins, too, which helps to disrupt. Luna Snow can use her freeze to catch Angela in a dive, enabling the team to turn and peel for an easy pick. Mantis can also do the same with her sleep.
- Winter Soldier can use his hook to disrupt and stun Angela, then use his combos to take her out. The shields from his abilities will be handy in these fights, too. Phoenix can also use her stun to CC angela and stack multiple explosive primary fires on her before she starts to fly away, resulting in an easy pick. Star-Lord can blink through her pins, use his E barrage to apply pressure when she flies in close, and also chase her with his hitscan primary fire bursts to clean up the kill.
- Venom can swing away from her pins, and also swing back in a pinch to help peel when she targets the backline. Emma Frost can grab Angela with her choke slam when she flies in, Diamond Form makes her unable to be grabbed, and her close-range brawl in that form is very strong against Angela.
How to Counter Captain America in Marvel Rivals

- Peni Parker can disrupt Cap’s ability to run in close with her nest and mines, and is generally a hassle for Cap to play into efficiently. For a more offensive/brawly option, a good Hulk can use his bubbles to protect his team from Cap, and also use his stun to CC Cap before he can make an escape, opening a kill window.
- Daredevil’s ability to lock-on to particular target makes him perfect for pivoting in to kill him once his cooldowns are up, or his shield is gone. Daredevil can also be very handy in peeling for the backline when Cap dives in during these hectic team fights. Characters who can maintain distance and snipe Captain America from afar are also strong, so long as you don’t snipe into his shield – Hawkeye and Hela are solid picks. Lastly, mobile characters with decent burst DPS, such as Star-Lord and Magik, can also use their dodges to survive Cap’s damage output and win the fight against him.
- Rocket Raccoon has good survivability thanks to his wall run and small hitbox, meaning you can simply run away and reposition when Cap dives in, and he has strong heals over time. Invisible Woman’s team shield and self-shielding ability means she has strong survivability chances when he dives her, and can even displace him with her push/pull, buying time for peel. Cloak and Dagger can blind him, making him vulnerable in the backline, and use their fade to reposition safely, and the placeable heal bubble can be clutch for surviving a dive if absolutely necessary.
How to Counter Doctor Strange in Marvel Rivals

- Venom, Thing, and Hulk can jump/dive in, apply pressure to Doctor Strange when necessary, and make his job to push up and take space as difficult as possible.
- Wolverine can absolutely shred through Strange’s shield and completely displace him from the frontline with his leap. Squirrel Girl, Moon Knight, and Punisher apply lots of pressure to Strange down choke points, and can blast through his primary resource – his shield, with ease.
- Loki’s clones/lamps can be extremely strong in surviving the likes of Strange’s Ultimate. Gambit can cleanse people from Eye of Agamotto with both his Hearts cleanse and his Ultimate, too.
How to Counter Emma Frost in Marvel Rivals

- If Peni Parker has great positioning with her nest, she can be a hassle for Emma, as Emma has to first clear the nest before she can really push in and use her Diamond Form to brawl. Peni can also use her web to stun her and help tick Diamond Form down, winding down her resources. Magneto has huge frontline presence and can be a bit tough for Emma to push through, with both his shield and his bubbles, as well as slower, but strong mid-range damage. He can simply bubble and shield his way through her beam and has all of the resources he needs to protect his team from her Ultimate.
- Emma Frost, as she has very little vertical mobility and combat potential, can struggle against skilled flyer heroes. This means the likes of flying heroes with strong DPS, such as Iron Man and Human Torch, can harrass and overwhelm Emma with pressure from the sky. Emma also has limited range, so backline DPS and snipers such as Punisher, Hela, and Hawkeye can also be extremely strong and difficult for Emma to play into, especially on the likes of a tough offensive push or tight chokepoint.
- Invisible Woman has good survivability and possibility of escape to reposition when Emma Ultimates or walks in, Gambit can apply Anti-heal to help burst her down, and White Fox has her handy teleport and shield, plus the ability to sustain in very brawly fights.
How to Counter Groot in Marvel Rivals

- In terms of Vanguard, high mobility picks such as Venom and Angela can be useful, so long as you don’t get yourself trapped. Doctor Strange and Magneto can also use their shields to walk up and take space against Groot, whilst providing cover for their team to shred his walls.
- High, rapid-fire or spam DPS can take down Groot’s walls – his primary defensive source, efficiently. Punisher, Moon Knight, and Squirrel Girl can all take down his walls with just a few clicks. Groot can also sometimes struggle against flyers, particularly ones with great positioning. Human Torch, Storm, and Iron Man can all work in such a situation.
- Gambit can bounce his heals off of other players and walls, helping to heal despite Groot’s ability to block in displace others with his walls. He can also cleanse teammates from Groot’s Ultimate. White fox is useful for similar reasons, as she can also bounce heals through allies, teleport through his walls, and use her ultimate to bounce over them and turn a team fight. Loki can also move around efficiently and apply healing to his allies and damage to Groot whilst mostly avoiding any damage from Groot. Ultron can also fly out of Groot’s range and heal/help secure picks from the sky.
How to Counter Hulk in Marvel Rivals

- There aren’t really any hard counters for a good Hulk on Vanguard, but another brawl/dive such as Captain America, Thing, or another Hulk can compete and potentially out-brawl him. Angela could also perhaps displace him with her pin, and use her team to pick him off. Peni Parker can also burn through his HP with smart mine and nest placement, turning him into Bruce Banner for an easy pick.
- DPS who can maintain distance from his dive and pick him off from afar, such as Hela, Phoenix, and Hawkeye are good if you can hit your shots. Alternatively, stuns such as Bucky and Wanda can be handy, a good Wolverine can shred him and stop his jump back to safety with his leap, or even someone like a Namor or Moon Knight who can provide heavy burst damage when he jumps in can shut him down with coordinated focus fire.
- In terms of Strategist, picks who have strong survivability or a self-heal are important, in case your team is not ready to peel. Invisible Woman has her self-shield and push+pull, Cloak and Dagger and blind and cloak out, Gambit has his healing spin-dash to reposition to teammates, and White Fox has her teleport away if in desperate need.
- Lastly, a flying team comp can also be tricky for Hulk, unless he’s able to consistently stun them out of the sky. Iron Man, Human Torch, Storm, Angela, Ultron, and Phoenix all have pretty solid air mobility and can be tricky kills for the Hulk to secure in repetition.
How to Counter Magneto in Marvel Rivals

- Magneto doesn’t have the mobility to keep up with the likes of Venom, Captain America, and Angela, so if they time their dives well, it can disrupt his play by drawing attention away from the frontline and his ability to make space.
- Wolverine is one of the biggest threats for Magneto. He can absolutely shred through his resources, and completely displace him with his leap. Magneto also doesn’t have any mobility himself to get back to his team when this happens, so it can be a very rough matchup. Other heroes who can displace Magneto for easier picks with the likes of pulls, pushes, or knockback include Spider-Man, Magik, and Emma Frost’s kick, just to name a few.
- Magneto has a huge Ultimate that can shut down key Strategist abilities and Ultimates, so the most important thing when playing into him on this role is survivability – though, when it comes to his Ultimate is is more of a decision making and reaction time-based outcome. Invisible Woman, if timed perfectly, can shield his Ultimate. Loki’s lamps can ensure survival. Gambit can spin-dash up and over his Ultimate, sometimes even destroying it in the process. White Fox can teleport away and shield. Adam Warlock can apply strong DPS pressure from a Support role, and use his flight to dodge/survive his Ultimate, and/or his revive to bring himself back.
How to Counter Peni Parker in Marvel Rivals

- Venom can swing in, take out her nest, pop his e, keep chipping damage, swing out, and then rinse and repeat. Doctor Strange can flash his shield to block her webs and mines, and enable his team to take out her nest.
- Mister Fantastic is great into Peni Parker. He can take a bit of damage while he pokes to take out her nest from afar, pop into his big form, then use his square form to absorb damage in a pinch. His survivability enables him to keep chipping away at Peni’s nest, enabling his team to push forward. Her nest can act like a free ankh to Moon Knight, and she’s a big target so if her team are playing around her that means easy bounce damage. Winter Soldier and Punisher also have very strong DPS and can take out her nest, and/or Peni once they have space to do so.
- Rocket Racoon can stay well away from her mines and nest and still provide value in his healing to his team, if there is a lot of pressure. However, he is small, can climb over walls and sit at unexpected angles, and his gun is one of the best for taking out deployables such as her nest, so he’s great for this, too. Loki can position his clones down sights, or on top of buildings at off angles to help target Peni and her nest.
How to Counter Rogue in Marvel Rivals

Rogue’s most lethal ability is the ability to steal the powers of enemies on the field! This means that by playing characters who don’t have powers, but instead use weapons or devices can reduce her effectiveness as much as possible.
- Peni Parker’s mines are annoying for non-shield Vanguards such as Rogue to play into, and Peni has the bonus of not giving her any abilities beyond the passive that she gets regardless of hero, based on role.
- Iron Man, Punisher, and Hawkeye all use weapons/machinery, so you won’t need to worry about them too. Furthermore, Rogue has limited flight and Iron man has strong aerial mobility, so you can stay out of her range pretty easily and apply damage. Punisher has strong burst damage for when she closes distance, and Hawkeye can snipe her from afar.
- Rocket Racoon and Ultron also refrain from giving Rogue any powers. Rocket can scurry away if she lands in the backline, and Ultron can keep distance in the sky and apply damage from afar to her with his extensive range.
How to Counter The Thing in Marvel Rivals

- Thing relies on running in and getting in for close-proximity brawls. Peni Parker setting up her minefield makes it much harder for him to run into her team without being exploded. Magneto and Doctor Strange can use their shields to cover teammates Thing is focusing, as well as potentially block his Ultimate. Their shields buy time for the DPS to shred him, as he is a massive, easy to hit target – even for a Vanguard.
- Characters such as Moon Knight, Punisher, and Squirrel Girl can do a lot of burst damage to him, as he is very easy for them to hit, and will struggle to push in to consistent pressure from their primary fire.
- Adam Warlock can help chip down Thing’s HP whilst also healing his team, Invisible Woman can self-shield and team shield, to block his Ultimate, and her Ultimate is quite tricky for Thing to play into. Loki’s lamps provide a big heal that can negate a push by Thing and save your teammates, and lastly, Gambit is another great pick as his primary can both heal and damage, enabling you to pivot between keeping your allies up and helping to chip thing down. Plus, his Anti-heal on Thing is brutal, taking him down in seconds due to being such a big target. And of course, he can cleanse people out of Thing’s Ultimate CC, too.
How to Counter Thor in Marvel Rivals

- Thor is quite close-range with his attacks, so Peni can be a nuisance for him to play into. Other than that, Magneto and Doctor Strange can also help stop Thor for operating at maximum efficiency, due to being able to shield his lightning, bubble allies he dives or tries to displace. Even better though, is the likes of CC potential. Peni can do this with her web, but Emma Frost is another choice, thanks to her choke slam. She can also pivot into her Diamond Form pretty easily as soon as Thor commits to the fight, and then focus him down with her team.
- Wanda has a pretty strong stun, Bucky is great for using his hook and ability combos, and even the likes of stun + headshot-heavy DPS such as Hela or Phoenix can be great at taking him out swiftly with a stun. Wolverine can both stun him with leap, as well as shred his HP, too, forcing him to either back out or commit and die.
- Luna has strong horizonal mobility and can freeze Thor on dive. Invisible woman can push/pull him away and place the vortex down when he dives her. Mantis sleep plus headshots is also pretty good at taking him out, or Adam secondary fire headshots, too.
How to Counter Venom in Marvel Rivals

- A very good Hulk player is actually rather effective against a Venom. He can provide the opportunity for his backline to escape via his stun, and his bubbles can also save their lives – this comes in clutch for Venom’s Ultimate. Magneto’s bubbles are effective for the same reason.
- The high DPS of a shotgun Punisher can force Venom’s crucial cooldowns and confirm kills on him, especially with headshot focus. Bucky can hook him back when he goes to swing sway, combo him, and gain extra shields to stay alive long enough to properly fight him.
- Invisible Woman is a huge threat to Venom. Once he uses his swing she can push/pull him, and he has to break through her self shield before he can kill her. White Fox can be annoying for the same reason, because of her ability to shield and teleport when he dives.
How to Counter Black Panther in Marvel Rivals

- Thing can completely take away Black Panther’s mobility, making him a very easy kill when focused. Similarly, as Black Panther relies almost exclusively on melee range and his dashes for mobility, Peni and her nest can be a real hassle to play into, especially if nobody else is focusing it.
- Namor and his squids can detect Black Panther the moment he enters range, which makes each and every one of his dives an uphill battle, so long as you have good positioning with them. Mister Fantastic can use his endless shields and ability absorption to protect allies from his dives, and Winter Soldier’s combos are pretty effective at taking him out, especially as he can slow BP and hook him back from his escape.
- Jeff the Land Shark can bubble and burrow to keep himself up through dives, reposition, and shoot his heal/damage stream down main to keep his team alive. Loki’s lamps and ability to position clones and teleport between them provides him with good survivability against BP. Lastly CC from the likes of Luna or Mantis can shut him down and turn him into a free pick, if you can hit the CC considently.
How to Counter Black Widow in Marvel Rivals

- Dive Vangaurds such as Hulk, Thor, and Venom can harass Black Widow from her sniping positions, forcing her to back out and reposition, or fight a losing battle back.
- If you can out-aim on sniper, than a Black Widow Mirror, or a Hela, Phoenix, and Punisher can work well. Otherwise, dive/high-mobility picks such as Spider-Man, Star-Lord, and Black Panther can consistently harass Black Widow and make her job as difficult as possible.
- Jeff has a big head and is easy to headshot when not burrowed, but if you manage your cooldowns effectively, you should be able to bubble and burrow your way out of being in her line of sight almost each time. Loki can lamp and clone, providing annoying deployables for her to take out.
How to Counter Blade in Marvel Rivals

- Blade is pretty darn good at shredding most shield tank characters, so Vanguards such as Groot, Captain America, and Peni Parker are a more efficient choice, a lot of the time.
- Snipers who can provide distance and out- damage him from his extended range are good choices. Punisher (who also has good headshot damage if he dives in), Hela, and Hakweye, and Winter Solider are all strong choices.
Loki can teleport away and place down his lamps for burst heal enough to survive a dive from Blade. Invisible woman can displace him with push/pull on vortex and double jump away, and Gambit’s spin-dash, Anti-heal, and ability to thrive in 1v1s make him a decent option, too.
How to Counter Daredevil in Marvel Rivals
- Peni Parker and Thing are strong Vanguard choices when it comes to any anti-dive play, and Daredevil is no different. Thing can use his terrain to stop Daredevil’s mobility and peel for his dives, Peni Parker can control space with her nest and mines to make Daredevil’s dives a bit harder to perform, so long as the team sticks together.
- Namor can be handy as his squids will auto-detect him and help draw attention to his dives, Hela can stun and headshot him, Winter Soldier can hook him, and also gains shields much like Daredevil, helping him survive the 1v1.
- Luna and Mantis are good for the CC potential. Cloak and Dagger can use fade to escape him, and blinding him with the window can help turn the fight back. Loki can place down lamps and teleport away, and Gambit can bounce heals, spin-dash away, and even apply anti-heal on him when he dives and call it for his team to focus fire.
How to Counter Elsa Bloodstone in Marvel Rivals

- Vanguard Deadpool is a solid option, as he is rather efficient at chasing her down and can apply intense pressure with his sword bounces. His buffed HP and shield also come in handy, rather than the lineup of his abilities on other roles. Rogue is rather good at isolating Elsa, too, using her grabs and stuns to corner her – especially if she’s already burned cooldowns.
- A good Iron Fist is pretty strong against Elsa too, as his lock-on enables you to track her consistently, providing constant harassment to her gameplay. He can also tank her most important cooldowns with his block, use his mobility to dance around her while she tries to shoot him, and then she becomes free pickings. Punisher, Namor, and Phoenix are also strong options who can out-damage her on the poke DPS role, if you play your positioning right and hit your shots consistently.
- Gambit is the strongest Strategist option, as you can cleanse her Glartrox, completely negating her Ultimate. Rocket and Loki also have movement and teleports that enable them to avoid Elsa whilst still focusing on their team. Though, neither of them can shut her Ultimate down like Gambit can.
How to Counter Hawkeye in Marvel Rivals

- Dive picks can be good, as they can close distance and shut Hawkeye down, so options such as Thor, Hulk, and Venom are solid. However, if Hawkeye is positioning well and getting picks through dives, then sometimes a shield tank such as Doctor Strange, Magneto, or Emma Frost is the next best bet.
- Hawkeye is best countered by DPS who can close distance, displace him, and disrupt his sniping ability. Black Panther, Magik, Spider-Man and Star-Lord are all able to to handle Hawkeye relatively easily if their dives are executed well. Alternatively, out-sniping the sniper is also an option with mirror Hawkeye, Hela, or Phoenix.
- Rocket Raccoon is hard for Hawkeye to snipe, as he has a small hitbox and can scurry around with good movement. Loki can use his clones and lamps to distract or dupe Hawkeye’s attention, and Invisible Woman can use her invisibility to play off angles, use cover and her shields, and heal from safety.
How to Counter Hela in Marvel Rivals
- Shield picks can be handy for blocking Hela’s stuns and primary, as she has pretty much infinite range for her damage. Emma Frost can be handy, as she can both shield some of this damage, as well as pivot into Diamond Form to walk on Hela and help provide pressure in brawls. Lastly, if you’re able to dive, the likes of a Venom, Captain America, or Hulk could also work in shutting her down.
- Hawkeye can out-snipe Hela efficiently with good aim, as he is the only hero who can one-tap snipe people, whereas Hela can only two-tap. Other than that, Punisher can do rapid damage, Bucky can slow and hook her, Star Lord can blink through her stun and harass her at closer-range, or even a well-executed dive from Black Panther, Daredevil, or Spider-Man can take Hela down easily.
- There’s only so much you can do on Strategist, but if Hela is particularly deadly, Rocket’s smaller hitbox and movement may assist you, or Invisible Woman’s invisibility and shield abilities may also help.
How to Counter Human Torch in Marvel Rivals

- Shield picks such as Magneto and Doctor Strange can shield some of Torch’s primary and secondary shots, helping to ensure he’s not totally free in the sky.
- Flyers such as Human Torch get absolutely shredded by almost any hitscan with consistent aim. Characters such as Hela, Psylocke, Punisher, Star-Lord, and Phoenix can melt him. A good Spider-Man can also target and take Torch out with one of several combos, especially if he has already used his dive.
- Invisible Woman’s vortex can completely ground flying characters, so if you can use this to hit a torch you can be a complete threat. Ultron can duel him in the sky, so if you can catch Torch while he’s focusing below, you can set it up for your DPS to pick him off.
How to Counter Iron Fist in Marvel Rivals

- Peni Parker can completely shut Iron Fist down, between her nest and mines being a nuisance for him, and her web being able to stun him before he can escape or heal. Thing is also pretty good, as he shuts down Iron Fist’s movement.
Namor’s squids can be annoying for Iron Fist to deal with, and can chip away his health before he even really commits to the dive. Namor has strong poke damage, too, so it’s actually pretty easy to confirm kills on him. Squirrel Girl can use her trap to stun him, and then pop free shots. Punisher can one-tap him with his shotgun when he dives in, and a good Hawkeye can do the same by holding his shot until Iron Fist dives in, then hitting the headshot.
- Cloak and dagger can blind him, fade out of his lunge range, and keep themselves alive with her bubble. Adam Warlock’s Soul Bond can split up his single-target damage around the team, ensuring survival from his dive. Loki can lamp and swap to different clones to avoid him entirely.
How to Counter Iron Man in Marvel Rivals

- Shields are the best thing for a Vanguard playing into Iron Man. Magneto can shield and bubble from his primary and Ultimate. Doctor Strange can pop his shield at an instant to time with Iron Man’s shots, as well as block Maximum Pulse. Captain America can even deflect Maximum Pulse back at Iron Man, negating the ability with a well-timed shield.
- Hitscan DPS absolutely shred Iron Man. Punisher, Hela, Bucky, Star-Lord, Phoenix, and Psylocke can all delete him with their primary fire or main combo. Spider-Man can also delete him with a quick combo from off angles, too.
- Invisible Woman can completely block Maximum Pulse with her shields, and she can use her vortex to ground Iron Man, ensuring an easy pick on him occurs. Luna Snow can completely DPS Iron Man down between healing if she has good aim. Cloak and Dagger’s auto-aim can be handy for securing that final hit on a low flyer fleeing a fight. Plus, fade is also handy for Maximum Pulse.
How to Counter Magik in Marvel Rivals

- Thing’s Earthbound ability is a pain for many divers, Magik included – it takes away both her dash and her portal. For this reason, he is one of the best Vanguard matchups to run against her. Other than that, Peni Parker and her mines once again provides a good matchup into dive DPS.
- Squirrel Girl’s trap, when timed right, can completely shut down Magik, providing time for you to hit follow-up damage and kill her before she is freed. Bucky can hook Magik and combo-kill her before she is able to portal out, and he can usually survive her combo if you react, thanks to the shields he gains with his abilities.
- Loki can use his clones to escape Magik’s dive, and use his lamps when he is caught out in order to survive. Invisible Woman can self-shield when Magik targets her, and can also use her vortex and push/pull to buy her enough time for peel, or for getting out with her double jump and invisibility.
How to Counter Mister Fantastic in Marvel Rivals

- Truthfully, there isn’t a bunch you can do to shut down Mister Fantastic from the Vanguard role. At the very least with Emma Frost, you can use her beam to chip him down, force him to pop his absorb or big form, and then use her choke slam as a kill chance once those cooldowns are down. Alternatively, Magneto is a sturdy pick all-around, and his shield plus bubbles is a lot for Mister Fantastic to have to break through.
- Wolverine can absolutely shred Mister Fantastic, as well as any other ‘tank-shredding’ picks. Shotgun Punisher is another strong option, burning through his forms with damage and finally working towards picking him off.
- Again, it’s more about focus fire and shredding Mister Fantastic, so there’s not a bunch you can do on Strategist. However, having mobility and being able to consistently reposition comes in handy when he goes looking for those 1v1s. Characters such as Rocket, Gambit, Ultron, Loki, and White Fox are all decent picks.
How to Counter Moon Knight in Marvel Rivals

- When you’re going up against Moon Knight, you want to block as many of his primary and ankh bounces as possible. For this reason, shield picks are a necessity, making the likes of Magneto and Doctor Strange the best play.
- Moon Knight needs pressure to stop him from spamming his primary through your team. Dive picks such as Spider-Man, Black Panther, and Iron Fist excel at flanking and singling out characters who may be playing slightly off from their team, such as Moon Knight. Lastly, flyers can be the trickiest for Moon Knight to hit, so Human Torch and Iron Man can work.
- For the same reason, Ultron can be handy. Rocket Raccoon can also scurry away and play off angles from the team to ensure he can heal them whilst also steering clear of Moon Knight’s primary bounces.
How to Counter Namor in Marvel Rivals

- Shields are efficient against Namor, both for his poke damage and his monstro squid damage. Doctor Strange, Magneto, Emma Frost, and Groot all work quite well.
- Moon Knight can shred monstro squids in seconds, and they act as free ankhs. Long-range hitscan such as Punisher, Phoenix and Hela are also good at taking them down and putting pressure on his poke playstyle. Lastly, Mister Fantastic works surpringsly well, as he’s able to absorb the heavy bursts of damage and take down squids from mid range.
- Cloak and Dagger can help take down Namor’s squid with their auto-aim when appropriate, can blind down main for anti-poke, and can fade Namor’s Ultimate. Gambit can cleanse Namor’s Ultimate and has good range for taking down the squids.
How to Counter Phoenix in Marvel Rivals

- Venom works quite well for harassing Phoenix on the Vanguard role, and can swing in and out, using his bonus health to survive explosive damage and her stun. Magneto’s shield and bubbles can be handy with well-timed cooldown management, also.
- Simply out-sniping/out-firing her is one of the only options on DPS, unless you are able to hit a clean dive on her with certain heroes. Punisher, Hela, Phoenix mirror, Black Widow, or Elsa Bloodstone can all theoretically win a 1v1. Alternatively, if you can perfectly execute a combo on Black Panther or Spider-Man and avoid her stun, this can be useful, also.
- Avoiding Strategists that have deployables or resources that can be wiped with Phoenix Ultimate is key - characters like Loki and Rocket should be avoided in most cases. Ultron is also pretty easily farmed by a Phoenix with good aim. Gambit is a decent pick, as he can bounce his heals through his team to compensate for explosive damage, Invisible Woman can help shield some of her damage, and can even block her Ultimate, too.
How to Counter Psylocke in Marvel Rivals

- Unfortunately, against a very good Psylocke there are very few hard counters. On Tank, you may be able to use Thing to get her in a close brawl, or disrupt her with Emma Frost's choke slam.
- On Duelist, mobility can come in handy for surviving a 1v1 against her. Daredevil is very good due to his lock-on and shields, Bucky can be good due to his hook and ability to slow her, and Star-Lord's blinks come in handy, too.
- Loki is probably the strongest overall counter for her, being able to escape with his clones, use clever positioning of these clones for heals and damage, and using his lamps to survive her in fights. Invisible Woman can also use her invisibility to escape, and push her away when she dives.
How to Counter Scarlet Witch in Marvel Rivals

- Wanda has an extensive TTK compared to other Duelists, compensating for her auto-lock. Tanks that can harass her at close range and force her to burn through cooldowns are the best bet. On the other hand, a shield pick is always handy for her bomb, so Strange and Mag can also work. I’d recommend Emma for a mix of both – she can shield or choke slam stun her out of bomb, has decent poke damage, and can push on her with Diamond Form once her phase is gone.
- Bucky can hook Wanda out of her Ultimate, and also use his combos to kill her pretty easily. Spider-Man can also pull her out of bomb, and if he hits a sticky on her, he can track her through her phase animation to kill her, so long as you hit combos and don’t stay long enough for her auto-lock to get you low. Hela and Phoenix can also stun her, and have a much stronger ranged damage playing into her, which makes it harder for her to push back against.
- Invisible Woman can push her Ultimate away or use her Ultimate to shield it. Luna Snow can freeze Wanda to secure the pick, too. Gambit has great mobility, and a heal plus Anti-heal that enables him to survive many 1v1s, and Wanda is far from the trickiest matchup for him.
How to Counter Spider-Man in Marvel Rivals

- Spider-Man suffers most from the classic anti-dive Vanguard picks of Thing, or Peni. Peni’s Mines make it hard for Spider-Man to stick around and land combos, unless it’s the tricky yo-yo. Thing can completely ground him, taking away the most important part of his kit – his swing! Once this happens, he’s almost a completely free kill.
- Namor is incredibly annoying to play into as Spider-Man, and in the right team comp, can be nearly impossible. It’s very hard for Spidey to kill the squids, and they do enough to completely disrupt his dive if he’s within range. Bucky can also hook and combo Spidey with ease, making him a threat to go up against. Mister Fantastic is horrible to play into as Spider-Man, too, as Spidey’s combos just don’t do enough damage to burst through his various forms. That, and Fantastic can pull you away/ruin your escape with his grapple. Star-Lord can use blinks to dodge Spidey’s attack, use your barrage to disrupt his dives, and gun him down when he commits.
- Invisible Woman is very hard to take out if she’s able to get the self-shield in play, and she has the ability to displace Spidey’s escape or entry into his dive with her push/pull. Gambit holds his own against Spider-Man very well, too, as his Anti-heal can chip him down very quickly. Loki’s lamps can shut down Spidey’s dive, too, forcing him to back out. Lastly, if you can CC him with Luna’s freeze or Mantis’ sleep, he can be picked with some quick team focus fire.
How to Counter Squirrel Girl in Marvel Rivals

- Countering Squirrel Girl on Vanguard is best done through shields. Though she is technically a shield-buster, Magneto’s shield, bubble, and attack still enables him to walk on her and claim space to secure a pick. Venom can dive her, bait out her abilities, and use his E to survive. Emma frost can also beam her, force cooldowns, then walk with Diamond Form to brawl when the opportunity arises. Angela as a flyer is good, too – just avoid being trapped.
- Squirrel Girl struggles against flying heroes, Duelist flyers in particular. Human Torch, Storm, and Iron Man are all very strong picks into her, as a moving flying target is by far the hardest thing to hit with her abilities. Alternatively, if you play a strong dive DPS with well-executed combos, you can often clear out a Squirrel Girl as Spider-Man, Daredevil, or Black Panther, before she manages to trap you.
- Ultron is a decent choice, as a flying Strategist, and he can even help deal poke damage to her, especially in a triple-Strategist comp. Gambit can cleanse her traps, which makes him useful for enabling the team to walk on her. Adam Warlock can often out-DPS her if you hit your right clicks, too, and Rocket can tuck away in a corner and play safe, healing their team and making it hard for her to hit them.
How to Counter Star-Lord in Marvel Rivals
Thing can take away Star-Lord’s mobility, then follow up with close-range punches to secure the kill. This is particularly useful against a flanking Star-Lord. Hulk can also bubble his allies when Star-Lord pressures them, and stun a Star-Lord for focus fire when he dives.
- A good Bucky is probably the best counter to a decent Star-Lord player. He is able to slow him with his projectile charges, he is able to hook him in and then combo him.
- Loki can use lamps to survive a Star-Lord dive or flank, Luna Snow can potentially freeze him as well as negate his Ultimate with her own. Both Cloak and Dagger and Invisible Woman are also solid picks, as they can both also negate his Ultimate with her own, and disrupt him when he applies pressure with push/pull and vortex, and blind window.
How to Counter Storm in Marvel Rivals

- Shield Vanguards such as Magneto, Doctor Strange, and Emma Frost are all handy for blocking Storm’s attacks and helping to take space, enabling hitscans to take her out.
- Storm is absolutely shredded as a flyer by hitscan Duelists such as Hela, Phoenix, Punisher, and Star-Lord.
- Luna Snow can freeze her, DPS to pick her off, and use her Ultimate to survive Storm’s Ultimate. Gambit is pretty good at taking down flyers too, and his Anti-heal certainly makes taking down storm pretty easy, too.
How to Counter The Punisher in Marvel Rivals

- Punisher is great at applying heavy damage to bigger Vanguard hitboxes, as well as deployables. Thing and Peni can be shredded by Punisher, so something like a Magneto, Groot, Doctor Strange, or Emma Frost can be a better option. Or, if you’re able to dive and disrupt him from off angles, such as Angela, Thor, or Venom, that may work.
- There is not a lot of counters on Duelist, other than hitting your shots better, or simply managing to out-aim the enemy Punisher, or catch him in a dive. Hela, Phoenix, Star-Lord, Black Panther, Daredevil, Spider-Man, Magik, and similar characters can be decent options.
- Invisible Woman’s shields an double-jump invisibility passive helps her survivability against the likes of a Punisher. Gambit can help to focus fire him as well as heal pretty seamlessly, and worst case scenario an Anti-heal on him can work, if nothing else.
How to Counter Winter Soldier in Marvel Rivals

- Again, Bucky has no hard counters or so it seems. But because of the lethality of his hook, playing shields such as Emma Frost, Magneto, and Doctor Strange so you can shield and bubble the hook can be of use.
- It’s similar to a Punisher situation, where you will often simply need to outplay the enemy Bucky. Bucky mirror or Punisher seem to be go-to options due to their high burst damage. Other than that, Mister Fantastic can be another options, as he can grapply to bucky, absorb some of his shots and abilities, and then use his big form to push back.
- Gambit is an absolute must, as you can cleanse Bucky’s Ultimate when he marks somebody, effectively stopping him from being able to get a refresh. Your heals and mobility also come in handy for surviving his burst damage. Cloak and Dagger’s blind and fade can be equally useful, so long as your positioning is good.
How to Counter Wolverine in Marvel Rivals

- A good Angela can counter-pin Wolverine when he leaps into their team, disrupting his dive and even securing a pick, if it all goes to plan. Other than that, both Thing and Peni are nuisance to play against with the likes of Earthbound and nest/mines.
- High burst damage is key to winning against Wolverine on Duelist, so close or mid-range headshots from Star-Lord, Phoenix, and Punisher can be effective. Also, if snipers such as Black Widow, Hawkeye, and Hela are able to maintain advantageous positioning, they can snipe his chunkier hitbox with ease.
- Invisible Woman can push/pull Wolverine’s dives and leap attempts, burning through one of his most crucial abilities. Cloak and Dagger can blind him and fade allies from being pulled into his leap, and Adam Warlock’s Soul Bond comes in handy, making it hard for him to chew through a single target.
How to Counter Adam Warlock in Marvel Rivals

- Emma Frost, Magneto, and Doctor Strange all have the ability to shield from Adam’s DPS potential. Hulk, Thor, Angela, or Venom can all dive him and force him to burn through Soul Bond and his heal charges.
- Winter Solider is a very good pick here again, he’s able to take Adam down pretty easily, and when Adam pops his Ultimate it can be a free-for-all for Bucky’s Ultimate. Squirrel Girl and Moon Knight can spam down main and make Adam’s poke potential an uphill battle.
- Invisible Woman can provide shields for her team and use invisibility to reposition from Adam’s secondary fire. Gambit can DPS back to him, as well as bounce his heals from behind cover when needed. Rocket can hang back and heal his team from afar without being in range of Adam.
How to Counter Cloak & Dagger in Marvel Rivals

- Magneto can use his Ultimate to completely shut down the strong potential of Cloak & Dagger Ultimate. Venom, Thing, and Angela can all apply pressure and force C/D to burn through their bubble, fade, and windows. Lastly, Emma Frost can pivot from playing poke to walking on a C/D rather easily, and a very well-timed choke slam can even stun them out of fade or C/D Ultimate. Groot can place walls between them and their team, making healing tougher.
- Punisher can one-tap headshot Cloak and Dagger through their Ultimate. Hela can snipe C/D from outside of their range, and good dives such as Black Panther, Daredevil, and Spider-Man can combo before C/D is able to swap to Cloak and fade.
- Gambit is the closest thing to a Strategist counter, as he can cleanse the blind window effects from his allies, which comes in very handy in the middle of a team fight.
How to Counter Gambit in Marvel Rivals

- Shields are effective at blocking Gambit’s Anti-heal, which is one of the best abilities in the game. Doctor Strange, Groot, Magneto, and Emma Frost are all suitable.
- Snipers can secure a kill on Gambit from across the field, so Phoenix, Hela, or a very good Hawkeye and Black Widow can work in some situations. Mister Fantastic is pretty good, due to his survivability and ability to just apply so much pressure. Wolverine can also be a good option, if you’re able to grab Gambit with your leap. Or, even Squirrel girl and Moon Knight if you can spam down a chokepoint or main push area to make their job healing harder.
- Loki and his lamps are a good bet, as they can help sustain through Gambit’s Ultimate. Furthermore, Gambit mirror is also an even better option, as you can cleanse negative status effects from the enemy in general, plus any Anti-heals Gambit applies to your team
How to Counter Invisible Woman in Marvel Rivals

- Angela can displace Invisible Woman with her pin. Venom can dive and burn through her shield, forcing her to reposition. Thor is also very good at solo-target dive, and can displace her with his pin, too.
- Mister Fantastic can apply pressure with both his poke and grapple ability, and shield himself to buy time for her to burn through her own resources. Wolverine can pin her away from her team, even out of her Ultimate, and force her to use her double jump, Psylocke can flank and take her out with her combo, and Star-Lord’s rapid fire is good at applying pressure, while his boosters and blinks help him chase her down. Also, Daredevil can see through invisibility, so that makes diving her very easy.
- Jeff the Land Shark can use his own Ultimate to counter-play Invisible Woman’s Ultimate. Invisible Woman Mirror or Gambit are the best choices in terms of matching heal numbers and survivability.
How to Counter Jeff the Land Shark in Marvel Rivals

- Emma Frost is pretty good at beaming Jeff down once he has popped up, due to his huge hitbox. Plus, her Diamond Form provides immunity to his Ultimate. Hulk can jalso ump on him and then stun, providing a window to focus fire and kill him.
- Hela, Hawkeye, Punisher, Phoenix, Elsa, and Star-Lord can all easily pick Jeff off when he is not burrowing. If you can land your shots, he can be mostly two-tapped by many of these heroes. Alternatively, if you need someone who can track him better while burrowed, Wanda or even Iron Fist can sometimes be surprisingly helpful, too.
- Cloak and Dagger can fade Jeff’s Ultimate, providing immense value. The lock-on from Cloak can also be very handy at tracking Jeff while burrowed. Gambit Anti-heal and burst down Jeff pretty easily, or perhaps even a Luna Snow freeze or Mantis Sleep can be efficient too, if you shut Jeff down and result in a pick.
How to Counter Loki in Marvel Rivals

- Venom and Hulk are good options for applying consistent pressure to Loki, and their mobility enable them to keep chasing if he teleports out or goes into invisibility.
- Moon Knight is the best counter for Loki, as Loki’s lamps and clones all essentially count as free ankhs for Moon Knight, making it extremely easy to perform bounce damage across the team and get free picks.
- Adam Warlock can Soul Bond similar to how Loki can lamp, and can help DPS to take out his clones. Gambit can both heal and help focus clones as he moves around in combat, and Ultron can be quite strong due to flyers being quite hard for Loki to consistently hit.
How to Counter Luna Snow in Marvel Rivals

Dive and brawl Vanguards do pretty well playing into Luna, absorbing or forcing her freeze, and making space. Thing can help to force her back and disrupt the team, Angela can pin her away, Hulk can jump and stun her, and Thor can dive and displace her.
- Strong dive heroes can delete Luna if she either misses her freeze, or they manage to execute the combo before she reacts – so in some situations, Black Panther, Daredevil, and Spider-Man are strong. Otherwise, snipers or spam down angles in which Luna is trying to hold for healing can be effective, too, meaning Squirrel Girl, Moon Knight, Punisher, Hela, and Phoenix are all decent options.
How to Counter Mantis in Marvel Rivals

- Mantis thrives most in triple Strategist Comps, which it is usually best to play the likes of Emma, Magneto, or Doctor Strange into. However, if Mantis is running in a double Strategist comp, then dive such as Hulk, Thor, and Venom can be very strong in picking her off.
- Again, strong dive Duelists such as Spider-Man, Magik, Black Panther, and Daredevil are very strong against Mantis, especially once her sleep is up. DPSPool, Punisher, Bucky, and Elsa Bloodstone are also pretty good at applying lots of pressure without needing to break into close range.
- Invisible Woman can shield a slept ally, which comes in handy, as well as her being a very strong pick all-around. Gambit can also cleanse her sleep, so this can be highly beneficial if your tank or a dive/flanker is being slept on cooldown.
How to Counter Rocket Raccoon in Marvel Rivals

- There aren’t very many hard counters to Rocket, especially on Tank. However, if you can wall him off as Groot, you can force him to reposition constantly in order to provide healing to his team. Angela, Thor or Venom may also be able to chase him down.
- Dive Duelists are the best option, with Black Panther, Spider-Man, DPSPool, and Daredevil all being capable of taking him out of the fight. Star-Lord is also pretty good, as you can blink to flip behind him if he tries to fight back. Wanda and Iron Fist are also an option if you need auto-aim for his scurrying around the walls. Of course, Phenix and her Ultimate completely blow up Amplifier too, and her stun can be strong against him.
- White Fox, Gambit, Invisible Woman, and Loki are all very strong due to higher burst heal potential as well as utility in their kits, from shields to invisibility or Anti-heal.
How to Counter Ultron in Marvel Rivals

- There isn’t much you can do on Vanguard other than shield his sky attacks with Doctor Strange, Magneto, and Emma Frost. Groot and Venom sometimes have the range to kill him from below, depending on the map, too.
- Like other flying heroes, Ultron gets shredded by high DPS hitscan. Punisher, Hela, Phoenix, Elsa Bloodstone, and Star-Lord can all shoot him out of the sky, especially on open maps. Spider-Man can use his combos to force out his shield and even kill through them, too.
- Cloak and Dagger is pretty good at finishing off fliers thanks to their auto-aim, so they can be a handy pick for helping to secure the kill. Gambit is also very efficient at DPS-ing them out of the sky between heals.
How to Counter White Fox in Marvel Rivals

- Tankpool is pretty decent at applying damage from a mid-range, so he can be good at helping focus fire her, especially when she Ultimates into a fight. Otherwise, dive tanks such as Thor and Venom can force her resources, such as her teleport, which can then create a window for your team to jump in and kill her.
- It is best to take White Fox out from range if possible, as she deals well with dive. Snipers such as Hela, Hawkeye, and Phoenix are perfect for this, but high DPS from range with the likes of Punisher, Moon Knight, Bucky, Elsa Bloodstone, or even Squirrel Girl can work, too.
- Strategists who can catch her with CC are handy – Luna Snow and Mantis are perfect for this. Alternatively, invisibility and teleportation characters such as Invisible Woman and Loki can work well, too.
