As any Marvel fan knows, the universe is pretty big and filled with lots of characters. Of course, some of those characters are alternate universe versions of each other. But even without that going on, there are a lot of characters to pull from – especially if you go digging into the ones that don’t get as much attention. So, it might seem a little odd to find out that Marvel has given NetEase permission to create new characters for Marvel Rivals. It’s not like the team shooter has a shortage of characters to pull from.
According to a report on MP1st, NetEase does, in fact, have permission to do just that. The outlet recently had the opportunity to ask the company some questions about the game at the Marvel Rivals Ignite tournament in Guangzhou, China. So, they took the opportunity to ask the game’s director, Guangguang, if they’d be allowed to create new characters somewhere down the line.
The reply from Guangguang was pretty straightforward: “Yes, we are allowed to introduce original characters in Marvel Rivals. When asked if they had been doing any work in that direction, Guangguang was a bit more cagey and told MP1st to stay tuned.
As I noted above, it might seem odd for the developers to bother creating new characters when the Marvel universe is bursting with them. But it’s also a long-standing tradition. Plenty of new characters have been created by new people coming in to work on the comics or by movie and television show writers. So, it should be interesting to see what they come up with, should they decide to.
