SEGA has revealed the next wave of updates for Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis (PSO2: NGS) Version 2 during the latest NGS Headline WAVE. Scheduled throughout September, these updates will bring new quests, powerful weapon series, fresh gameplay mechanics, and limited-time rewards.
The first one arrives on September 3 with the introduction of Alter Realm Exploration: Combat Sectors. Unlike traditional combat areas, Trials here will always boost the PSE gauge, making PSE Bursts easier to trigger. Players can also earn randomized Ability Buffs from Extra Missions and Special Trials. And there are new bosses: High Rasetsu and High Val Zagga. To encourage participation, Limited-time and Title Tasks will provide PSO2-spec CAST Parts, N-Augment Transfer Pass Vouchers, and N-Master Cubes.
September also introduces new high-rarity weapons. The Zenit series upgrades from the existing Cres line, enhancing stats and adding a Photon Blast potency boost. Players can obtain Zenit weapons by trading in Cres Cubes, which drop in Alter Realm Exploration. In addition, the Cres AT and Einden series will become available, the latter evolving from the Volgen line and featuring a new Potential that regenerates HP over time. Collecting items like Juvolg Volt II will be crucial for these upgrades.
Then, on September 17, players can dive into the limited-time Urgent Quest “Resonant Twin Shadows Shake the Wetlands.” This event features Ruine Gryphon and Ruine Angel, two enemies that must be defeated simultaneously or risk reviving together. The battle contains hazards like sudden tornadoes and clone spawns. And, Limited-time Tasks will award themed cosmetics, including Mini Devil Wings, Arkuma Hairband, and Gothic Claws: Black.
Finally, Leciel Exploration: Halpha Environmental Testing Zone Survey will see expanded content. Enemy levels will increase, new bosses Ruine Angele and Ruine Granz will appear, and two new Ability Buffs will enhance Photon Blasts or boost PA/technique damage when HP is low. Additional Limited-time Tasks will unlock accessories such as Howzer Hair, Domino Mask, and Infernal Horns: Purple, while a new Augment Capsule, Lois Halphinale, can be crafted using drops from both the Urgent Quest and Leciel Exploration.
