EverQuest and EverQuest 2 players have noticed something missing and weren’t pleased with the response when they asked where they were at. The missing items in question are the 2026 roadmaps for the free-to-play MMORPGs.
When players began to inquire as to the status of the roadmaps, a senior community manager took to the forums to explain, letting players know their questions had been seen and that the team has “chosen to forgo a roadmap this year” as they “would like to knock out the redundancy in posting the same information repeatedly and would much prefer to post articles closer to when things will be occurring”.
As you might expect, player response was less than positive, with many pointing out that less communication isn’t better. Others noted that many players don’t bother with individual updates and that the roadmap was the only way they know what’s up with the game.
This prompted studio head Jenn Chan to add a post to the games’ forums sharing some plans for the year. This includes two game updates for EQ2, new content on the Origin servers, and various quality-of-life updates. Based on the post, it seems things aren’t as dire as players were imagining. Although they’re probably right about not keeping up with regular news posts on the games’ sites.
