Today, Atlant Games, an indie company based in Armenia, announced the launch of a new free-to-play MMORPG. The result of more than seven years of work, Reign of Guilds’ development started out with the game being the successor to old-school fantasy MMOs like EverQuest and Ultima Online. As Kingdom Come: Deliverance launched midway through the Reign of Guild’s development process, the developers took inspiration from it as well, adding the “grounded realism” associated with the game.
Based on old-school MMO design, the game’s progression is skill-based rather than level-based. Other old-school features include partial loot on death, non-target combat, and friendly fire. There are 14 available vocations with more than 100 vocational skills and over 50 spells.
They’re not going easy on the crafters either, requiring “hours of mastery”. Of course, all that creating will play into the game’s market.
As for the game’s world, it launches with a map approximately 100 square kilometers in size. Inside that space are four countries, 12 conquerable castles, and plenty of enemies to fight.
Reign of Guilds is free-to-play and can be downloaded via Steam.
