Six Favorite Games That Have Their Own Real-World Cookbooks

Every so often, I receive emails telling me about cookbooks based on different popular game IPs. Unfortunately for me, most of these games aren’t the ones we typically cover on this site. Otherwise, I’d be happily covering all of them. I mean, cookbooks are pretty awesome. But the other day, I was sitting here thinking about how some in-game food is pretty attractive. This is, of course, true for any anime-styled game as anime food always looks delicious (unless it’s purposefully made unattractive for a gag).

Specifically, I was wondering if there was a cookbook filled with recipes from Zenless Zone Zero’s noodle shop, Waterfall Soup. As far as I can tell, there isn’t. That being said, my search wasn’t a complete bust. I did find several cookbooks inspired by some of our favorite free-to-play games. Some have been available for a while. Others are available for pre-order. All of them have the potential for deliciousness.

Hearthstone: Inkeeper’s Tavern Cookbook

This book came out in 2017 and features 50 recipes inspired by Blizzard’s card game, Hearthstone. The book is designed to be a replica of Harth Stonebrew’s cookbook and contains recipes ranging from mac & cheese to cocktails. Interestingly, the hardcover is less than $6 on Amazon. That said, the listing also states there is currently only 1 copy available. On the other hand, if you like Kindle books, it is available that way as well.

Overwatch: The Official Cookbook

It looks like Monroe-Cassel is Blizzard’s go-to for cookbooks. At least, they were for this one and Hearthstone. This book features recipes inspired by the team shooter’s roster of characters. As each character is from a real-world location, the recipes focus on each of the characters’ homelands. That said, it is worth pointing out that this book was for the original Overwatch, so it may not feature some newer characters found in Overwatch 2.

Destiny: The Official Cookbook

Speaking of cookbooks based on shooter games, how about some recipes inspired by the Destiny universe? This cookbook, written by Victoria Rosenthal features recipes gathered by Eva Levante following the Red War.

Guild Wars 2: Feasts of Tyria Recipes from Kryta to Elona

Okay, so obviously, there are some authors really dedicated to writing video game recipe books. That’s great news for us. In this case, the book isn’t out yet. But it won’t be long, as Amazon lists the release date of the Guild Wars 2 cookbook as September 16. The book features more than 60 recipes from the world of Tyria. It also comes with a code for a rare spear skin: Seimur’s Butterknife.

Heroes’ Feast (Dungeons & Dragons): The Official D&D Cookbook

I’ll admit to playing a little loose for this one, as this cookbook isn’t directly tied to a specific MMO or other online game. That being said, there are D&D MMOs, so I figure it’s close enough. Heroes’ Feast offers all kinds of recipes ranging from Elven Bread to Orc Bacon. (I’m not sure if that’s bacon made by orcs or bacon made out of orcs.) The book also includes vegetarian recipes for those who need them.

Genshin Impact Official Cookbook: Culinary Journeys Across Teyvat

Well, I did mention anime food, and I can say as someone who plays Genshin Impact, the food in the game does look pretty tasty. As expected, this cookbook features recipes from Teyvat, specifically the first four regions players visit. It even features prefaces from Michelin-star chefs. The book isn’t out yet. But as with the Guild Wars 2 cookbook, the wait won’t be long. It’ll be shorter, even, as it releases September 2.
