We had a bit of a dry spell for many years on the good skateboarding game front. Lately we've seen some single-player offerings in the way of a Tony Hawk's Pro Skater remake, and some multiplayer titles like Riders Republic have included skating in one fashion or another.
On the multiplayer front, we've obviously been watching the development of Skate from EA (who had their socials taken over by a shady investment corporation yesterday), but now there's another title to keep your eye on if you're a skateboarding fan.
Wrekless is an upcoming skateboarding game from Free Range Games. Never heard of them? Well, their team includes a number of devs who worked on the Tony Hawk's Pro Skater franchise back in the early 2000s and now they want to bring skateboarding to the "massively multiplayer" realm.
Targeting a Q3 2024 launch, Wrekless throws up to 50 players together at a time and you're free to not only skate, pull of sick combos, and hang out, but you'll also be able to build skate parks in real-time. What better way to make friends than to slap a bus down right in front of someone just as they reach full speed ahead of a ramp!
Wrekless will also feature a ton of character customization, some of which will probably be cash shop items, but we're just guessing about that right now as no payment model details have been revealed yet.
You can also record some of your sickest lines and share them online.
The team calls this project "the massively multiplayer collaborative skateboarding game we’ve always wanted to make," and we can't wait to check it out.
You can wishlist the game on Steam now and check out the trailer below courtesy of Gematsu.
