There’s been a lot of hints about the next region in Wuthering Waves, Lahai-Roi, over the latter part of the free-to-play action RPG’s storyline. Everyone – the bad guys, the good guys, even random objects – has been teasing Rover about this new place. In the last update, we were even shown that Rover has a connection to Lahai-Roi in probably the weirdest way possible, as a student at Spacetrek Collective’s Startorch Academy. (You’d think they’d be a professor or something. But apparently they were one of the cool kids.)
Lahai-Roi is unique from the other nations we’ve seen so far in Solaris for a few reasons. First, it has no Sentinel. It’s also located beneath a giant, barren, frozen land. (Effectively, its sky is ice.) The residents consist of a tribe – the Roya, who have lived there for generations, and a group known as the Spacetrek Collective, who we previously mentioned are responsible for the academy. The latter is an international coalition of researchers.
The academy isn’t just a school, it's a city of its own. And the whole city is dedicated to scientific research and the training of mech pilots. (Yes, there’s a mech.) The pilots are known as Synchronists, while the humanoid mech is Exostrider. It’s believed by the academy that the Exostrider shares the same origin as the Sentinels, but that has not been confirmed. That said, it is necessary for Lahai-Roi to function, and it will be needed to deal with the Threnodian responsible for the Void Storm.
We’ll learn more about the nation and this Exostrider as we play. And exploration should be a bit easier than normal because of a form of transportation we haven’t had until now. With the new update, players will be able to access a motorbike via their terminal. (I can’t get into everything this bike can do, or we’ll be here all day.) The academy itself has several ways to get around, including a roller coaster train.
The update also introduces a new combat mechanic, “Off-Tune”. Now, during combat, enemies will build up an Off-Tune level when being attacked. Once at its limit, the enemies enter a “Mistuned” state, allowing players to trigger a “Tune Break” and reset the enemy’s Off-Tune level at the same time. Against bigger bosses, players need to use a Tune Break skill to trigger the Tune Break. This same skill can also be used to interrupt if used correctly. All Resonators have access to this mechanic and can be found in the skill interface.
The 3.0 update begins with the Chapter III Prologue “When the Unknown Thrums” and Main Quest Chapter III Act I “What Burns Beneath Frostlands” on December 25. Of course, with time differences, that means those of us in the West will be playing on Christmas Eve. This will be followed by Main Quest Chapter II Act II “Ode to the Second Sunrise” on January 15, taking players deeper into the Roya homeland.
Of course, a new update means new Resonators, and we’ve known about these for a bit. But if you’d like to see them in action, the devs offered more information on Lynae and Mornye during the stream.
Finally, don’t forget your goodie codes. Today’s are BACKTOSCHOOL, HITTHEROAD, and STARCHASER. Use them before 8 PM Pacific on December 14.
