About
Abyss Odyssey is an action adventure title developed by ACE Team and published by SEGA, released on July 15, 2014. The game features single-player and co-op modes that allow players to explore procedurally generated levels. Three warriors are sent to battle a different abyss each time within these side-scrolling environments. Players can choose from the bold Katrien, the tortured specter Ghost Monk, or the ethereal Pincoya to fight. The combat system includes combos, chaining attacks, and releasing a flurry of blows to survive threats below. You may also learn to possess your enemies to utilize their skills and combat abilities against the abyss. The main story takes approximately four hours to complete, while including extras extends playtime to eight hours. A completionist run requires about nineteen hours to finish all content. There are only two constants in the game: a great evil awaits at the bottom of the pit, and you must succeed or die.

And yet if Abyss Odyssey stumbles, it at least does so while attempting a genuinely thrilling, high-wire juggling act of game design rather than simply milking obvious and proven gameplay features. For all its missteps, it remains utterly unique, absolutely gorgeous and delightfully eccentric. If you can stick around long enough to understand what's going on and what's expected of you, and make your peace with Abyss Odyssey's slightly over-reaching nature, you're left with a game that more than repays your patience.
