Agarest: Generations of War is a single-player title developed by Idea Factory and published by Ghostlight LTD. The game was released on February 3, 2014, and falls within the Fantasy, RPG, Adventure, and Strategy genres. It presents a narrative where the Gods of Light unified the remains of the Gods of Darkness to create a new world after an initial conflict destroyed the original realm. Now, the forces of darkness are awakening once again in this setting. The combat system is turn-based and allows players to battle hundreds of different creatures using various character abilities. Players can build an army of warriors and master Extra Skills, Special Arts, and Over Kills to defeat colossal enemies. The Extended Area feature links both party members and enemies, where each character has a uniquely shaped zone for attacks. When a character's turn arrives, other characters within that extended area can combine their moves into extended attacks. This mechanic enables the party to chain attacks together, granting access to more Arts and huge Combos. The Blacksmith's Guild offers two methods for upgrading items and equipment through Enhancement and Alchemy. Enhancement allows players to boost equipment to a maximum of Level 5 before converting the item into something else in an irreversible process. Alchemy combines several items to create a single, more powerful piece of equipment, though a Smithing Accident may occasionally result in a different item than expected. These upgrades provide permanent access to new weapons and armour in the Shop. The Soul Breed system spans five generations of heroes, beginning with the first character, Leonhardt. During each generation, players build relationships with three different female party members before choosing one to marry at the end of the story arc. The choice of marriage partner is restricted to girls who have grown fond of the player over a particular generation. Decisions made during conversations at specific points in the story determine which options are available for marriage. The strength of the relationship with the chosen wife influences the abilities of the main character in the next generation.
