Battlezone: Combat Commander is an action, sci-fi, and strategy title published by Rebellion and developed by Big Boat Interactive. The game was released on February 28, 2018, offering both single-player and multi-player experiences. In the story, former rivals from the United States and Russia set aside their space race to unite against an alien threat. Together they form the International Space Defence Force and recruit the player to lead a resistance movement. This effort aims to prevent total devastation for the human race as war spreads across the solar system. Players can fight across 24 intense missions spanning over six exotic living worlds within the game. Scavenging the battlefield allows users to gather bio-metal needed to create powerful units, towering defenses, and vital facilities. Command involves controlling more than 30 unique unit types ranging from lethal tanks and ground units to walkers and air support. These forces engage in intense first-person combat against enemy targets throughout the various levels. The game features advanced AI where units learn and improve as they gain combat experience. New units fight like recruits while experienced units become more effective by using strafing maneuvers and choosing suitable weapons. Some units will even retreat when necessary based on the situation. Visuals have been remastered with an all new DX11 renderer, shader based rendering, and upscaled terrain. The environment includes a completely retextured landscape to enhance the experience. Multiplayer options include cross-play functionality for head-to-head matches with friends. Available modes feature the classic Deathmatch alongside a co-operative mode called MPI where players manage offense, defense, and scrap collection together. Community generated content is supported through mods that allow for new singleplayer and multiplayer maps. Users can also install custom vehicles, HUDs, assets, scripts, and other modifications via Steam Workshop support.
