About
Blackthorn Arena is an indie RPG and strategy simulation developed and published by PersonaeGame Studio. Released on May 19, 2020, this single-player title offers a real-time and turn-based combat system within a fantasy setting featuring mythical monsters and classic races. The game allows players to act as the master of Blackthorn Arena, where they train slaves into gladiators and forge them into champions for their own glory. The narrative unfolds in Freeland, a savage land composed of several city states where the slave trade was still commonplace at the time. As heirs of the black thorn arena, players take on the vow to restore family honor through competition and management. The current version includes fourteen arenas with different styles alongside sixteen legendary NPC champions who each possess unique battle styles. Combat options are extensive, offering seven different weapon masteries ranging from one-handed and two-handed weapons to ranged, dual, polearm, and unarmed fighting. Players can choose from ten unique classes including Gladiator, Commander, Duelist, Defender, Rogue, Ranger, Berserker, Marksman, and BattleMonk, with an additional genre available via DLC. There are 180 different skills for players to freely combine and collocate across these various class options. The game features more than 100 different enemy types that appear in a variety of competitions such as tag fights and other events. The total playtime for the main story plus extras is listed at 26 hours, while specific durations for the main story or completionist runs are not provided in the available data.
