About
Caves of Qud is a science fantasy roguelike epic. It is an indie game in the RPG, adventure, and strategy genres. The game features single-player gameplay. Caves of Qud was released on July 15, 2015. The game is developed by Freehold Games and published by Kitfox Games. Players can choose to be a mutant indigenous to the salt-spangled dunes and jungles of Qud or a pure-strain descendant from one of the few remaining eco-domes. These eco-domes include Ekuemekiyye, the Holy City; Ibul, the ice-sheathed arcology; and Yawningmoon, the crustal mortars. Players begin their journey in the oasis-hamlet of Joppa, located on the far rim of Moghra'yi, the Great Salt Desert. Players can customize their characters with over 70 mutations and defects and 24 castes and kits. These options include wings, two heads, quills, four arms, flaming hands, or the power to clone themselves. The game features procedurally-generated regions with some familiar locations. Each world is nearly 1 million maps large. Players can interact with a variety of factions, including apes, crabs, robots, and highly entropic beings. The main story follows Barathrum the Old, a sentient cave bear who leads a sect of tinkers intent on restoring technological splendor to Qud.
