About
Curious Expedition 2 is a turn-based narrative roguelike developed by Maschinen-Mensch and published by Thunderful Publishing, released on January 27, 2021. The game falls within the indie, historical, RPG, adventure, strategy, and simulation genres while offering a single-player experience. Players join an expedition to mysterious islands that appear and vanish from the oceans as if by magic. These strange locations are being explored by great Explorer Clubs to bring treasures back for the 1889 World's Fair in Paris. The core gameplay loop requires players to manage resources and party members to keep insanity at bay while finding glory. You must balance greed against survival needs to ensure your trek stays alive without perishing. Every adventure features a new combination of dangers and opportunities across various biomes in fantastical worlds. Procedural storytelling ensures that each run is unique as characters form relationships, change loyalty, and acquire illnesses based on decisions. Combat relies on dice-based mechanics where cleverness is required to survive fierce wild animals and legendary creatures. Players can outfit party members with equippable gear to create builds capable of taking on any challenge. The experience combines procedural gameplay with handcrafted story elements to create a narrative that supports repeated playthroughs. A variety of expedition types are available, each with its own unique goal and events ranging from seeking the Golden Pyramid to recovering the Rainbow Orchid. The game includes 4K-native graphics inspired by classic Franco-Belgian comics and offers new content for returning players. Veteran users will find additional items, character types, enemies, biomes, tribes, and events included in this title. The main story length is approximately seven hours, while completing the main story plus extras takes about ten hours. A new Director Mode adds modifiers and features to every expedition to expand their scope and increase difficulty.
