Darkest Dungeon is a gothic roguelike turn-based RPG. It was published and developed by Red Hook Studios. The game was released on January 18, 2016. Darkest Dungeon is an indie game that also falls under the fantasy, RPG, and strategy genres. Players can enjoy the game in single-player mode.
The game focuses on the psychological stresses of adventuring. Players will recruit, train, and lead a team of heroes who each have their own flaws. The team must explore dangerous locations such as forests, abandoned sanctuaries, ruined crypts, and more.
Players will face not only terrifying enemies but also stress, hunger, illness, and darkness. The game features a strategic turn-based combat system. There are three game modes and over 80 hours of gameplay. The Steam Workshop supports user modifications for the game. Darkest Dungeon includes a "psychosis" system where players must contend with the mental strain on their heroes in addition to battling monsters.
