Players must outmaneuver the enemy as they close in from all sides while the perimeter collapses under assault. Robotic turrets provide temporary support before needing reinforcement or replacement during the fight. Tactical decisions involve ordering soldiers to fall back to defensive chokepoints and rebuilding defenses to gain extra time. Forward squads may be sacrificed to secure additional moments for gathering the team and equipping them with flamethrowers or laser guns. A siege cannon can be constructed for fire support while players flank main hives to destroy and capture them. This cycle of tactical victory and immediate re-engagement defines the core loop of the campaign. The aliens constantly mutate, changing from soft targets ripped apart by shotguns to hard, bullet-proof armored units that require adaptation. Players must equip their team with stealth suits, miniguns, or grenade launchers depending on the current threat level. The game features procedural maps and a random mutation system designed to keep encounters fresh throughout play. A total of 21 human weapons and buildings are available for players to wield against the threats.
