Murder by Numbers is an indie mystery visual novel adventure and puzzle game published by The Irregular Corporation and developed by Mediatonic. Released on March 5, 2020, the single-player experience takes place in Los Angeles during 1996. Players solve pixel puzzles to find clues and use those clues to interrogate witnesses. The goal is to work toward the truth and uncover the mystery of Murder by Numbers. The narrative follows Honor Mizrahi, an actress on a hit TV detective show who becomes central to a murder investigation after her boss dies minutes following his decision to fire her. She teams up with SCOUT, a reconnaissance robot discarded after a mysterious incident, to clear her name and form a new detective duo. The investigation spans various locations including TV studios, glitzy award shows, and drag clubs. A dark conspiracy unfolds as players interrogate a wide range of characters designed by Hato Moa. The game features an energetic soundtrack composed by Masakazu Sugimori, who has worked on titles such as Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney, Ghost Trick, and Viewtiful Joe. The main story takes approximately 20 hours to complete, while the main story plus extras extends to about 28 hours.
