About
Chasm is an action-adventure title developed and published by Bit Kid, Inc., released on July 30, 2018. The game falls within the indie, RPG, adventure, casual, and action genres while offering a single-player experience. Players assume the role of a new recruit undertaking their first mission for the Guildean Kingdom as a knight eager to prove their worth. The narrative begins when rumors surface that a mine vital to the Kingdom has been shut down, prompting the player to investigate a mining town where townspeople have disappeared. These individuals were kidnapped by supernatural creatures emerging from the depths, setting the stage for an epic adventure to solve the mystery and restore peace. Along the way, players engage in deadly battles against cunning monsters while exploring ancient catacombs and castles to find powerful new equipment hidden at every turn. Although the overall story remains consistent for all players, each hero's journey is unique because every room has been hand-designed before being stitched into a one-of-a-kind world map. The game features six massive procedurally-assembled areas constructed from these hand-crafted rooms and presents challenging retro gameplay with authentic pixel art at a native resolution of 384x216. Combat involves battling massive bosses and discovering new abilities that allow access to previously unreachable areas, alongside character customization through armor, weapons, and spells. The main story takes approximately nine hours to complete, extending to eleven hours if extras are included, with a full completionist run requiring thirteen hours. This version is available on Windows, Mac, and Linux systems and includes full gamepad support for enhanced control during exploration and combat sequences.

Beautiful pixel art and tight controls make Chasm a fine, if reserved, modern take on the Metroidvania.

Chasm is a lovely and fun Metroidvania with a lot of cool new ideas, even if its randomized maps are uninteresting.
