About
Foretales is a single-player strategy card game published by Dear Villagers and developed by Alkemi, released on September 15, 2022. The adventure genre title centers on a world ravaged by a terrible curse that only a small-time thief named Volepain can stop. Players assume the role of this character to confront a dark prophecy that has doomed their realm. With time running out before an apocalypse occurs, you must decide how to use the remaining moments effectively. The narrative explores the fate of creation entrusted to the Nymphants, who were given instruments capable of both creating and destroying worlds. You can choose to discover the true goals of the Nymphants or embrace the Maelstorm for eternity within this branching storyline. The game features multiple endings that result from your decisions regarding the path to salvation or destruction. A huge cast of characters supports these original storylines as you navigate through various playstyles and story paths. Combat in Foretales utilizes turn-based card mechanics alongside deck exploration gameplay elements. The experience offers an expansive narrative with several possible conclusions based on player choices during the adventure. Artistic direction and an original score by Christophe Héral provide the backdrop for this unique board game feel. Narration is handled by Travis Willingham, adding voice work to the critical role inspired presentation. The main story takes approximately 13 hours to complete when focusing solely on the primary plot points. Adding extra content extends the playtime to around 18 hours for those seeking additional challenges and narratives. A completionist approach to all available content can reach up to 27 hours of gameplay. The game offers great replay value through its multitude of distinct playstyles and story paths.

Rather austere in its presentation, and repetitive in its gameplay, Foretales unpacks an intriguing story via a roguelite narration, which makes you throw part by game, but in moderation. You will at least want to achieve a beautiful ending!
