Freedom Planet is an indie action platformer published and developed by Galaxy Trail that released on July 20, 2014. This single-player arcade title features a combat-based adventure where players control a spunky dragon girl and her allies against an alien invasion force. The game presents various threats ranging from insects to giant robots and explosive destruction throughout each stage. Players can utilize a variety of special fighting abilities to blast through obstacles in every level. The protagonist Lilac uses Dragon powers to whip enemies with her hair, spin like a cyclone, or fly through the air at high speed. Her companion Carol busts through foes with punches and kicks or summons motorcycles that allow riding up walls and ceilings. Both characters dash across the celestial world of Avalice using boosts, bikes, and other high-speed gimmicks. Players can choose to achieve the fastest time or explore at their own pace to find hidden paths and treasures. The experience includes battling quirky bosses such as towering alien creatures and aggressive rivals while helping Lilac and friends save their world from war. The Adventure mode features fully voiced cutscenes for the main story, which takes approximately five hours to complete. Adding extras extends the playtime to nine hours total for those who want more content. A completionist run requires about twenty-two hours to finish all available material.
