About
Set in Northern Canada during October 1970, Kona is an action indie adventure developed and published by Parabole. The game places players in the role of Carl Faubert, a private detective hired to investigate vandalism at a hunting manor owned by industrialist W. Hamilton. A sudden snowstorm traps the detective in the deep north, cutting off access to his client or any other living inhabitant. Players must explore an eerie village and uncover the mysterious events affecting the area while battling harsh environmental conditions. This single-player experience focuses on shedding light on perplexing quietness within the town and investigating surreal occurrences. The narrative is driven by a vintage aesthetic that evokes the feel of rural communities from the 1970s. An atmospheric soundtrack featuring music by Quebec folk band CuréLabel accompanies the tale as it unfolds through an omniscient, third-person storyteller. The main story takes approximately five hours to complete, with additional content extending playtime to seven hours for a total experience. Those seeking a completionist run can expect to spend around ten hours exploring the vast, frigid Northern environment. The title blends survivalism with detective work while incorporating well-researched history and folklore from the region. Reviews note that the game achieves an ideal sense of urgency through its witty and spooky atmosphere. It presents a chilly, narrative-driven interactive tale centered on investigating strange events in Atamipek Lake.
