About
Torment: Tides of Numenera is a single-player role-playing game developed and published by inXile Entertainment. This title serves as the thematic successor to Planescape: Torment and takes place within Monte Cook's Numenera universe. The gameplay presents an isometric, story-driven experience where players navigate the Ninth World after being born from falling into orbit. Your character occupies a body once held by the Changing God, a entity that has cheated death for millennia. The narrative follows a journey through a world that becomes increasingly strange and dangerous as you progress. You must escape an ancient, unstoppable creature known as the Sorrow while traveling with a host of companions whose motives vary. These companions may offer help or cause harm depending on their goals during your quest to answer what one life matters. The game allows players to explore these themes through dialogue and choices within its fantasy adventure setting. Players can expect to spend approximately 26 hours completing the main story alone. Including extra content, the experience extends to about 35 hours of gameplay. Those seeking to see every aspect of the world will find a completionist path lasting roughly 49 hours. This Indie RPG combines strategy elements with deep narrative focus for those interested in adventure games.

Torment: Tides of Numenera Critic Reviews and Review Scores

Smart and commendably weird, InXile's homage to Planescape Torment doesn't exceed its inspiration but certainly does it proud.

A slow start gives way to a thought-provoking adventure in a remarkable setting. A fitting follow-up to a beloved RPG.

The turn-based combat may be a little disappointing, but Torment: Tides of Numenera manages to live up to the legacy of Planescape: Torment by offering a fascinatingly weird and well-written tale. Thanks to a wide variety of options in conversations and the influences of its tidal system, it offers decent opportunities for replay value and a memorable tale each time. This is the rare game that leans almost entirely on its setting and writing for its appeal, and the miraculous thing is that it usually succeeds.

Constant text-reading and unusual imagery are delights to speculative-fiction lovers, but others may be confounded

Torment: Tides of Numenera is a fascinating old-school RPG that doubles down on the concept of role-playing.
