Shadowrun: Dragonfall - Director's Cut is a standalone role-playing game developed by Harebrained Schemes and published by Paradox Interactive. Released on September 17, 2014, this title combines elements of indie, fantasy, adventure, sci-fi, strategy, and turn-based gameplay. It serves as the definitive version of the original campaign that first appeared as an expansion for Shadowrun Returns. The game features a single-player experience set in a world where magic returned to Earth in 2012, awakening mythical creatures. Players can explore fifty-two hours of content depending on their play style, with the main story taking approximately twenty-one hours to complete. Adding extras extends the main experience to about twenty-nine hours, while a completionist run requires around forty-two hours. This edition includes five all-new missions and alternate endings compared to the original release. The package also offers new music, a redesigned interface, team customization options, and a revamped combat system. Existing owners of the Dragonfall expansion for Shadowrun Returns receive this content automatically when it launches on their Steam Library.

Unfortunately, as DLC, if you didn't buy Shadowrun Returns originally you have to do so now to play Dragonfall - effectively doubling the price. It would be much easier to recommend as a standalone expansion - both as a marked improvement on the original campaign and a refreshing break from the genre's usual fantasy worlds. It still stands as those things if you're willing to take the plunge, though, as well as being an excellent reason to give Shadowrun Returns and its community a second look.
