About
Grim Fandango Remastered is an adventure game published by Double Fine Productions and developed alongside Shiny Shoe. The title was released on January 26, 2015, offering a single-player experience that serves as a remaster of a previously acclaimed entry. This version improves upon the original launch by enhancing visuals, audio, and controls while retaining its status as a genre classic. The narrative follows Manny Calavera, a travel agent at the Department of Death who assists souls on their four-year journey to eternal rest. Players help Manny navigate a conspiracy that endangers his own salvation within a setting blending film noir aesthetics with Mexican folklore. The story unfolds over four years in the life and death of the protagonist, presenting a plot where something is rotten in the land of the dead. The remastered edition features repainted high-resolution character textures and new dynamic lighting effects to improve the visual presentation. Audio improvements include a classic score re-recorded with a full live orchestra for an enhanced listening experience. Additional content provides over two hours of exclusive developer commentary alongside access to a concept art browser. The game won GameSpot's Game of the Year award upon its original release and remains available as a better-than-ever version of that historic title.

Definitely be careful of rose-tinted memories. The puzzles and its relatively early peak can't and shouldn't be ignored. Nor though can everything that it does right, from its sheer heart and creative polish, to the genius of its ideas and characters. Even when it stumbles, it stands as a fine reminder of why LucasArts at its prime was seen as the industry at its best, and few other adventures have deservedly gathered so much affection. It was an instant classic back in 1998. It's still very much a journey worth taking today, albeit ideally with a walkthrough.

A confident remaster of a true classic. The puzzles have aged badly, but the sparkling humour and world design still shine.

Time has done little to diminish Grim Fandango's beauty or relevance. It is an adventure game not to be missed.

The remastered version is a nice reminder of – or introduction to – the heyday of adventure games, warts and all
