Each of the three diverse factions—the United Earth Federation, the Cybran Nation, and the Illuminate—has been completely redesigned from the original game. Experimental war machines are available with new designs and enhanced looks that can be unlocked through research. These units allow players to change the balance of power at any given moment during brutal battles on a massive scale. The gameplay experience allows players to research new technologies and deploy them instantly on the battlefield. For example, a base-level tank can be upgraded into a high-powered, multi-barreled vehicle with anti-air capabilities by the end of a game. The strategic mode user interface has been redesigned to be faster and take up less screen real estate while providing better player feedback. New rendering technology is used to create visually spectacular environments throughout the game. A completionist playthrough requires about forty-eight hours to finish all available content.
