About
Ancestors Legacy is a squad-based real-time strategy game developed by Destructive Creations and published by Fulqrum Publishing. Released on May 21, 2018, the title falls within the historical and strategy genres. The game features both single-player and co-op modes alongside multi-player options. Players take command of an army to storm through medieval Europe in a series of campaigns. Four distinct nations are available for selection: Viking, Anglo-Saxon, German, and Slav. Beyond simple conquest and raiding, victory requires utilizing tactical options and managing settlements. The environment plays a key role in achieving success during large-scale battles. Resource management and base building combine with squad-based combat across detailed battlefields. These elements are rendered using Unreal Engine 4 technology. The experience is inspired by historical events from the Middle Ages.

More often than not, Ancestors Legacy showed me a good time watching my berserkers, Teutonic knights, and Slavic tribesmen hack their way through forests, marshes, and the occasional open field. The weakness in the core infantry combat, which tilts a bit too much away from quick, tactical thinking and into correctly guessing how the enemy line will be arranged, was the main issue that kept me from really coming to love it. Historical inaccuracies aside, though, it scratched my itch for a traditional RTS in a way that will probably keep me coming back.
