5 Times Multiplayer Games Got Themselves Review Bombed

Sometimes games get what they deserve when they get review bombed. Whether it's a major change, a broken patch, or dirty monetization, these are 5 times multiplayer games got review bombed and had no one to blame but themselves.

Helldivers 2

Helldivers 2 players are currently up in arms over the fact that Steam players are being required to connect to a PlayStation Network account to play. This has understandably upset many fans of the shooter, and review bombs are dropping like nukes in Fallout. 61% of recent reviews are already negative, and there are no signs of it slowing down. There's seemingly no reason to require players to create/login to one of the most often compromised online gaming services to ever exist.

 

Fallout 76

Speaking of Fallout, Fallout 76 was review bombed at launch, and deservedly so. In typical Bethesda fashion, the game was launched as a buggy, broken mess. The more surprising aspect was just how empty and barren the world was, with a total lack of anything significant to do. They've righted the ship (for the most part) since then, but those launch woes still linger in the minds of many would be players.

Warcraft 3: Reforged

Over 14,000 reviews poured into Metacritic in the first few days of Warcraft 3: Reforged being launched. Can you guess how it went? If you guessed poorly for Blizzard, then ding ding ding you get a cookie. The remaster for the strategy game was simply of piss poor quality and lacked features Blizzard had promised (a trend we'll see continue later in this list). On top of its problems, purchasing the new Warcraft 3: Reforged made it so that you couldn't go back and play the original from Battle.net. Now that's shady.

Star Wars: Battlefront 2 (2017)

News Flash: Electronic Arts loves dirty monetization. They'll be aggressive with it too, shoving loot boxes in your face every time they get the chance. Many went so far as to call Star Wars: Battlefront 2 pay-to-win, and it was hard to argue against that seeing as how unlocking new, more powerful characters heavily favored those who paid. Microtransactions were suspended for a time in the game, and an overhaul followed the next year, but for many, it was too little too late. Everyone had already seen what EA wanted to do, and they weren't having it.

Overwatch 2

Overwatch 2 became the worst rated game on Steam within 48 hours of launch after not delivering promised content (where have we heard that before?), aggressive monetization, and poor treatment of employees. It didn't help that the original Overwatch was shutting down, and the sequel looked more like a clone than a true successor. To this day Overwatch 2 sits at "Overwhelmingly Negative" on Steam, with 82% of reviews being negative.
