Bungie Changes Direction On Destiny, Says It’s “Foundational” To The Company’s Future

It’s been about three months since Bungie dropped Destiny 2’s “final” update, effectively putting the free-to-play shooter into maintenance mode. At the time, we thought that was pretty much it and Bungie was moving onto other things. That’s why I wasn’t exactly checking for Destiny 2 news lately and missed seeing a letter posted on the Bungie site last Thursday.

As it turns out, the end isn’t the end. In the letter, Bungie’s new leadership stated that Destiny is “Foundational” to the company’s future and that there are more stories tell. They also explained that they don’t just plan to pick up where they left off with the game, but rather will be doing things to “recapture the qualities that have made it special”, starting with restoring vaulted content so that it’s available to all players. It will apparently take some time, however, as changes made to the game requires them to update this content to work with it.

While some players might be skeptical, rightfully so, this is probably good news for those who are still dedicated to the game. Whether or not it will bring players who have already left remains to be seen.
