I honestly hate that FFXIV Housing Demolition is still a thing at all. There shouldn't ever be a clock over my head should I decide not to subscribe to a game for a while. For those that don't know, because of how annoying the FFXIV housing system is and the limited amount of housing available in the MMORPG, Square Enix schedules houses you own for demolition if you don't enter them at least once every 45 days. You usually get an email ahead of time with a warning, but obviously that's subject to email errors.
In most cases, fine. Housing owners are usually visiting their homes pretty often anyway, so it isn't a big deal. However, it does prohibit you from really being able to drop your sub for a few concurrent months if you wanted to do so. You'd lose your house in the process.
Setting aside my dislike for the system, Square Enix is putting automatic demolition on hold for North American Data Centers. Aether, Crystal, Dynamis, and Primal Data Center players won't have to worry about their homes being demolished for a while. The 45 day timer is put on hold for now (effective today) due to the devastation caused in the US by Hurricane Helene. Helene, as of this writing, has sadly claimed over 160 lives and left parts of the US (particularly North Carolina) completely underwater or damaged.
"From all of us on the FFXIV development and management team, our hearts go out to those who were affected late last month by Hurricane Helene in North America," reads a portion of the team's post.
It's a classy move on the team's part and isn't all that surprising given that the team usually does this in cases of disaster or mass connection issues.
When the system is turned back on, timers will resume from where they are paused today.
