As we get closer to the arrival of Path of Exile 2’s Return of the Ancients, GGG is preparing to wind down Fate of the Vaal. For those wondering what will happen to the current League – and the characters participating in it, we have answers for that.
In a recent post, GGG announced that Fate of the Vaal will end on May 25 (next Monday). At that time, players of the free-to-play ARPG can expect characters and related items to be migrated to the Standard or Hardcore Early Access leagues. The good news is that there won’t be any wipes, so players can continue with them as long as they like – or at least until the new League launches on May 29.
The other good news, for players who enjoyed Atziri’s Temple, is that it will be sticking around as a core mechanic. Going forward, players will find Vaal beacons in Act 3. They’ll need to activate six of them to unlock the Temple in the present. Unlocking more beacons in “Doryani’s Contigency” will unlock the temple of the past.
In addition, a new region on the Atlas will offer guaranteed Vaal Beacon encounters in all maps. Players will need to complete this area to earn points toward the Temple Atlas Tree and the related bonuses.
There will be some changes, of course. Changes have been made to prevent the “snake” strategy. Vaal Infusers have been changed into four distinct types of currency. And all players automatically receive a maximum crystal cap of 60 and a medallion cap of 6. That last one will take a bit of the work out of things. A full rundown on these changes and others is available on the Path of Exile Steam page.
