MMORPG fans anticipating Fantastic Pixel Castle’s Ghost are on the receiving end of potentially bad news this week. A recent post from Greg Street on LinkedIn revealed that the developer’s partnership with NetEase is ending and that they are now looking for a new publisher. The problem comes in in that if they don’t find a new publisher sooner than later, it could mean the closure of Fantastic Pixel Castle and the end of the Ghost project. Of course, this also means that the development staff will be impacted as well.
As noted, the company is looking for a new publisher, or an investor to take the project on. That said, they’re preparing for the worst and encouraging staff to do the same.

As for the efforts being made to find a future partner, Street expanded on this in a post earlier today stating that the company does have backup plans that might appeal to an investor more than a full-blown MMORPG. This includes a “downscoped version of the game that focuses on multiplayer sessions”. He compares it to Helldivvers or Elden Ring Nightreign. This version isn’t complete either, but would likely be easier to complete and require less funding.
Aside from that he notes that Fantastic Pixel Castle is a “fully staffed, global veteran team that knows how to ship” – meaning that a company looking to make a game yet who are lacking in a solid team could benefit from adding the Fantastic Pixel Castle team to their staff.
