In about 2 hours, at 1 PM EST barring issues or delays, Throne and Liberty will open to the masses. The F2P MMORPG has been running its head-start for those that bought founder's packs for a few days now and even hit over 56K users on Steam during the head start. Now things are about to get a lot more crowded as PC, PlayStation, and Xbox players flood the servers.
We're sure there will be issues in a few areas like server stability and login queues, but hopefully it goes as smoothly as these things can go.
There are a few things about the MMO that you should know going in when it comes to who you will be playing with, and how you can play with them. We'll get into actual gameplay things in our First Look video, but before you create your character, there's a few things you should know.
First, Throne and Liberty is cross play, but it is not cross progression. If you're going to play on multiple platforms, you'll be playing on separate accounts.
Second, if you were part of the head start (early access), you will not be able to transfer characters from the early access servers to the launch day servers for balance reasons. Your friends that didn't buy a founder's pack can roll up on early access servers (if there's room), but you can't transfer to their launch server, so plan accordingly. There are free transfers (limited to 2 per day) until October 17th to help you find your home.
Third, join a guild. Generally, the earlier you do this the better. However, be a bit selective with your choice and if you have the option to guild up with friends that guild together in other games, do that. Guilds are a key component to Throne and Liberty and many events, PvP features, and even some unlocking of content is contingent on your guild doing certain things.
That said, guilds do have quite a bit of power when it comes to loot acquired during guild events, so make sure you're ok with the settings or you may find that "epic drop" you just got is actually going to the guild for the owner to assign later, or they can decide who is allowed to bid on dropped loot in guild auctions that use Lucent (the cash shop currency). Trust is key.
Finally, your auction house (which uses Lucent, the cash shop currency) is tied to your server cluster, not your single server. Early access servers and launch server auction house clusters will be separate for a while, but will eventually merge. For example, the image below shows the "NA East" server region. Initially there will be 1 auction house for all the early access servers and 1 for the launch servers in NA East. Eventually, this will be merged down to simply 1 NA East auction house as the launch servers catch up.
See you in game!
