Star Wars: Outlaws has had a very difficult launch and the reception (and sales) led to a delay for the next Assassin's Creed and a sharp financial position decline for the company. Within the last month, we've had reports of Ubisoft's shooter XDefiant being pressured to raise player counts by Season 3 or suffer support reductions. While the company did respond to those claims saying XDefiant was "not dying," they didn't push back on the specifics of the "Season 3" timeline.
In a recent Trading Call, Ubisoft did confirm that XDefiant has "fallen behind expectations." While the reception of Star Wars: Outlaws was the largest factor in a 30% reduction in the company's second quarter bookings forecast, XDefiant did get a brief mention.
“It mostly reflects the softer-than-expected sales for Star Wars Outlaws. We also had behind expectations for XDefiant, which we will give you a bit more detail at the end of October,” said CEO Yves Guillmot.
This comes despite recent leaks claiming XDefiant could be adding multiple new game modes.
