Free-to-play third-person hero shooter game Marvel Rivals just announced a new consumable item called Chrono Shield Cards, which prevent players from losing ranked points when used.
However, the community response has been pretty negative. In replies to the official announcement on X (Twitter), many players voiced concerns that the cards could lead to rank inflation and encourage intentional match-throwing without consequences. They argue that the ranked system is already flawed, and the addition of Chrono Shield Cards only worsens its integrity.

While each player is currently limited to 20 cards — and developer NetEase Games has stated they won’t be monetized and are only available to those in Gold rank and below — many fear this is a slippery slope. The community worries that more cards could be added later, potentially opening the door to pay-to-win mechanics and undermining the competitive balance of the game.
