Today hasn’t gone exactly as planned for the developers of Ubisoft’s pirate game Skull and Bones. The team brought the game down at 11 PM Pacific last night to implement patch S3.1, with plans for the downtime to last approximately two hours. Unfortunately, things did not go as planned and the game was down overnight and into the day.
Early this morning, the devs announced that they had “identified critical issues causing server stability” during maintenance. This was followed three hours later with an announcement that the maintenance would be extended in order to resolve the situation. All told, the maintenance lasted a little over 15 hours, ending a little before 2:30 Pacific time. Hopefully, this is the only issue this patch results in and players can begin tackling their S3 content.
The content consists of a new episode that will begin in week 5 of the season and a few events. Appropriately the events celebrate Talk Like a Pirate Day with a giveaway, fireworks, and a double infamy event. Details on the events can be found in the patch notes.
For those wondering if players will be compensated for the downtime, they will. A compensation package is in the works, according to one of the announcements from this morning.
UPDATE 9/18/2024: Here is what the team is sending to players' in-game mailboxes as compensation for the outage:
