We have less than two months until Final Fantasy XIV’s Dawntrail expansion launches, and while the devs are keeping us busy chasing down Yo-kai and taking part in other events, they’re still pretty busy themselves. It seems that at least part of their current workload is focused on trying to make sure we won’t crash the servers or get locked in never-ending queues when the MMORPG’s expansion launches.
To that end, the XIV team announced today that they’ll be introducing a new logical data center in Europe. This data center, named Shadow, will host three worlds: Innocence, Pixie, and Titania. I’m sensing a theme.
The data center will be added to the selection menu soon, on May 7, following maintenance. However, it won’t be accessible just yet. Players will have to wait until the data center officially launches, and no, we don’t know when that will be yet.
Of course, the introduction of a new data center in Europe at this time might bring up a few questions, such as whether or not the other regions will be getting another one. Seeing as NA and Japanese players got a new one not too long ago, this might just be them playing catch up with Europe. The other question is whether or not this new addition is an indicator that the devs might have given up on the cloud data center option. Remember, there was a test back in November and then there’s the ongoing test of cross-region data center travel to Oceania. It seems Yoshi-P really would like to avoid a repeat of last time.
