The Legendary Shards currency is being deprecated due to its unstable presence in the game's economy. This currency has led to disparities between players, some having too many while others struggle to earn enough. To simplify the economy and reduce the complexity of in-game currencies, Legendary Shards are being removed. The removal will begin in Season 23, with costs associated with various activities and items changing to accommodate this shift. Notably, there will be no currency exchange for stockpiled Legendary Shards, but the goal is to make the game more approachable and fair for all players.

Bungie also addressed the dismantling of gear, which has been a primary source of the shooter's Legendary Shards. With their removal, dismantling gear will still provide rewards, including Enhancement Cores and Glimmer, ensuring players still benefit from this mechanic. Some specific values and mechanics may change before launch. Additionally, the update mentions changes to Xûr's payment methods and improvements to the drop rate of Essences of the Oversoul, which are needed for the Necrochasm quest.

Besides the Legendary Shards changes, a new challenge is introduced in the form of Crota's End weekly challenges, along with Master difficulty and improved rewards. The PvP Strike team is working on various changes too, including adjustments to Exotic armor and weapon balance. 

A new Iron Banner mode called Tribute is also coming in Season 23, and there are map updates and Crucible Medals to enhance the PvP experience. Additionally, the Crucible Labs playlist introduces Checkmate, a modifier that alters gameplay dynamics and the acquisition of Special ammo, aimed at promoting strategic decision-making and gunplay skills while maintaining the essence of Destiny 2's unique gameplay. 

Trials of Osiris is reintroduced with updated loot pool drops as well.
