When MMORPGs add new content, sometimes there's, let's just say, interesting side effects. This could be the result of not enough testing, or the result of players finding "unique" ways to break certain boss encounters or mechanics. Usually, the dev teams behind the games fix the issue and then sometimes circle back around with suspensions, bans, or maybe just clawing back ill-gotten gains that players gained thanks to the exploit.
Amazon Games is taking a slightly different approach in Throne and Liberty, and it's one I kind of love.
In the latest episode of Tico Talks, Tico brings up a recent bout of exploiting that is impacting Dimensional Trials. The first of which sees players finding places in the environment where they could stand to damage the boss, but they wouldn't take any damage in return. This led to higher difficulty clears, more rewards, and higher spots on the leaderboards.
Here's the cool part. If you did NOT abuse this exploit, the team will be sending you 600 precious Rune Chests and you'll still be able to earn chests from the trials as normal. I love the idea of rewarding those playing the content that didn't use the exploit while punishing those that did. It's kind of a double slap to the "cheaters." If you did abuse this, you'll get a warning, you'll earn a permanent mark on your account, and you'll be ineligible for the end-of-season rewards. Leaderboards will be updated to remove these players before the season ends.
Similar penalties will be rolled out to those that are found to be using scripts for auto-farming ("part-time botters") or third-party cheats.
The second bug was more benign. Some players received extra matchmaking box rewards from Dimensional Trials. This bug was fixed and there will be no other actions taken since this one wasn't on the players, it was on the devs.
The final portion of the video talks about upcoming fixes for performance issues that have been presenting problems since Telandre's launch. Tier 2 progression is changing a bit, too. Expect next week's video to talk about upcoming events to help you gear up. In the meantime, hundreds of loot goblins will start spawning on the 24th to help with some extra drops.
