About
Devil Daggers is a fast-paced shooter developed and published by Sorath that draws inspiration from 1990s first-person shooters and arcade games. Released on February 17, 2016, the game places players in an abyssal arena where they must face endless legions of demons. The experience focuses on single-player gameplay where the objective is to survive as long as possible against progressively more dreadful foes. Players can choose from a variety of genres including horror, action, indie, and shooter while mastering mechanics that are simple to learn but challenging to master. The game features versatile magic daggers capable of being used for shot attacks or rapid fire, alongside powerful homing variants earned by harvesting crystals. Movement is fluid, allowing users to perform circle strafes, bunny hops, and dagger jumps, with advanced techniques providing speed boosts and double jumps. The title supports hundreds of flocking enemies that all avoid each other within the arena. A 3d particle physics system handles procedural decal effects while HDR 3d positional audio provides sound, with an optional HRTF binaural audio setting available. The visual style utilizes a custom built game engine married with hand crafted art and sound to achieve a 1990s software-style rendering with unfiltered textures and polygon jitter. Survival depends on beating your best time or competing for precious seconds against friends or the world on global leaderboards. Access to these competitive features requires internet access and the creation of a user login. The replay system allows players to view replays from every score on the leaderboards, control replays by fast forwarding or slowing down, and switch to a bird's eye view. The main story length is five hours, while the main story plus extras extends to thirty-seven hours. Completing all content takes eighty-eight hours. You can learn techniques and strategy from anyone using the replay system to improve your performance.

Invigorating and infuriating in equal measure, Devil Daggers is a journey of self torment that will do terrible things to your brain.

Devil Daggers' stripped-down and distilled essence of first-person shooter intensity will take up a lot of my time in the weeks to come. Every second longer that I survive in its hellish arena is a new record for myself to break, over and over again. It's a brutal, but brilliant shooter that finds strength in its minimalism, stretching a few seconds of action here and there into endless hours of dreadful fun.

Devil Daggers takes the foundation of the shooter genre and builds it into a fine-tuned, challenging, exhilarating romp through hell.
